American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

In the process of brewing this now and it smells amazing! I am not sure if anyone has suggested this but for the continuous hop additions I found it made it very easy to lay pellets along the length of a 30 cm ruler with 1 cm equivalent to 1 minute. Takes the guesswork out and makes it a lot easier!

Some bottles are better than others

I think you're probably right. I will have to be less greedy with the last few bottles next time.

Some bottles are better than others

No they were carbed up fine although that could be a possibility considering I am using PET bottles.

Some bottles are better than others

Has anyone else noticed inconsistency in off-flavours among bottles in a single batch? I experienced this recently with a batch of golden ale and was really enjoying this beer until I gt about three or four bottles with an off kind of cardboard/synthetic/plastic bite to them. I assumed my batch...

    Subbing Magnum for Warrior

Ok great thanks for clearing that up for me :)

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Hi Yooper, Ok I think I get it now thanks :). Would you recommend the hop amounts you used for the AG batch or the extract batch if I am doing a partial mash BIAB hybrid of the two recipes? I noticed you used 1/2 oz more of each hop in the recipe. What was the reason for that? Thanks

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Well that is a bit of a coincidence :). My LHBS is apparently out of Simcoe for the year but it is apparently such a unique hop that I had to go an order some off the net. Sorry but I am still pretty new to this. Is there any chance you could provide a sample hop schedule for a 5 gal batch...

    Subbing Magnum for Warrior

If I wanted to make Yooper's Dogfish Head IPA clone recipe and only had access to Magnum to use as my bittering hop rather than Warrior, would I just calculate the percentage difference in AA and use additional Magnum in the boil? ie. Warrior is 15% AA and Magnum is 12.5% AA so Warrior has 1.2 x...

Evil Dead Red - Modified AleSmith clone

I think it might be simpler if I just pose the question, do you think this recipe will make a good beer? I am aiming to create my first partial mash BIAB to make a strong beer that has both a bold hop and a bold caramel/roasted malt character with a deep red colouration. I also noticed that the...

Weird things you have put in beer

Hi guys, I am pretty new to this but one of the big advantages of homebrewing seems to be that you can flavour your beer with anything you want. I was just thinking, what is the weirdest thing you have put in your beer and actually had it turn out to be great? If it turned out to be total...

    Filtering from primary to secondary

I think most of that will settle out in the bottle. Looks like a pretty clear beer though :)

Evil Dead Red - Modified AleSmith clone

Weird. I have no idea why masses of ingredients didn't paste over. I will try again: Original: Grain Bill ---------------- 3.970 kg Liquid Malt Extract - Light (73.25%) 0.450 kg Crystal 40 (8.3%) 0.450 kg Munich I (8.3%) 0.220 kg Crystal 120 (4.06%) 0.220 kg Victory (4.06%) 0.110 kg...

Evil Dead Red - Modified AleSmith clone

Hi guys, I found a good looking recipe for Peter Zien's Evil Dead Red clone and I have modified it to use up the leftover grains, extract I have in my fridge and recycled US-05. I was wondering if anyone could provide input as to whether my modifications are going to significantly or...

Beginner mistake. Did I ruin my brew?

I actually did go ahead and try this mini boil on the 2nd day of the primary fermentation because I was curious about trying out this idea. Since I lost approx. 20% of my wort to dilution, I did a full 60 min boil with 1.5 l of water, a couple tablespoons of LME and 20% of my hops, cooled and...

    Adding Fruit

Has anyone had success using dried fruit like raisins or apricots? I am considering an apricot wheat (similar to St. Ambroise) and apricots are definitely not in season in Australia so I was thinking of trying dried fruit.

Beginner mistake. Did I ruin my brew?

I was considering this as well, but will I then need to add more extract to get enough out of the hops? I worked out using a dilution calculator in Brewmate that I would be losing about 6 IBU total out of a 30 IBU beer. Apparently if I do a 60 minute boil with 4.5 grams of Magnum, this should...
