    Calculating pre-boil vol by weight?

I do BIAB mash with no sparging. So all of my water is in the kettle as strike water. I pretty much have my volumes figured out but occasionally depending on how the weather affects the boil-off rate I miss my volume. I use a pulley to lift the grain bag, out of curiosity I usually weigh the...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

The customer that asked the question was standing right in front of basically a pallet load of Cigar City beers. Knowing just how passionate they are about their canning line made this really funny to me Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Overheard at Total Wine. Customer: what is it with all the beer in cans? Salesman: its what some new breweries are doing because its cheaper, helps them get started until they can buy bottling equipment.

    Words and phrases I hate

How about "unanswered points"? Especially when a football announcer uses it right after a touchdown and before they've kicked it to the other team. "The Saints have scored 21 unanswered points!" No they have scored 14 unanswered points and will now give the Panthers an opportunity to answer to...

MM2 Mill powered with Garage Door Opener?

I've been watching this thread, I have about ten used openers laying around. I have a garage door business so I get lots of used ones back. Been thinking if doing this, but I haven't really seen the drawback to just using a drill. I usually just set my Barley Crusher on a bucket. Lot less...

American Pale Ale Citra Pale Ale

Bottled mine last night after dry-hopping for 7 days. This is awesome! I bumped up the grains a bit, subbed Vienna for the Munich. OG 1.067 FG 1.013. Sure glad I have more Citra in the freezer, This batch won't last long!

American Pale Ale Citra Pale Ale

I'm going to have to try this soon. Looks like I have everything on hand except for the Munich. Could I replace that with Vienna?

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Got to try my first bottle today, after only 15 days bottle conditioning. I'm very impressed! I think I'll be able to share it with my bmc drinking friends. Usually it's just a waste of good beer, but this one may win a few people over.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

brewed this one this past Saturday. It was only my 3rd AG BIAB. I scaled the grains up because my first 2 batches I had only gotten 60% efficiency. Well this time, I milled my own grain and got 76%. So I had an OG of 1.048. I increased all the hops aditions to .33oz.
