    Is my batch infected?

OK, but it has been bottle conditioning for only a day so far...aren't the bottles supposedto condition in temps slightly warmer than what the ale fermented at? I've got it at about 70-75F right now.

    Is my batch infected?

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to see it in pictures. I have to hold it up to light to see it and even then it's barely perceptable.

    Is my batch infected?

EXCELLENT advice. I'm going to go pour one right now...hmmmm....IPA or Pumpkin Ale? :tank: Nick

    Is my batch infected?

Hey guys, I just bottled a batch of the Holiday Cheer ale from Papazian's TJOHB last night, and when I took a look at the bottles this morning there appears to be what I can only describe as a faint "swirly haze" in the bottles. I don't ever recall seeing this before. Now I didn't rack to...

    Sanitizing bottle caps

Are you supposed to do it or is it ok to use them straight out of the bag? I've always sanitized mine but I read last night that it was unnecessary to do so. Truth or bad advice? Thanks, Nick

would this work - conical w/better top....

It would probably work just fine as a fermentor but would be a very poor substitute for a conical if we're taking about dumping yeast and so on. Also the capacity is too low for 5 gallon batches...you'd want it to be 6.5 gallons at least.

    Keggle OR 15 gallon Megapot

Well, my wife is buying me a brew kettle for Christmas, so cost isn't really a factor (to me, lol) but I'd like to keep is reasonable, hence Blichmann not making the cut.

Making a Keggerator with a college fridge

I keep mine at about 38-40F.

Making a Keggerator with a college fridge

Oh, I forgot to add that almost all mini-fridges have a small "shelf" at the back. The size of this shelf will vary depending on the make and model, so just make sure there's enough room at the bottom of the fridge in front of this shelf for your kegs.

Making a Keggerator with a college fridge

Buy the largest you can without a freezer. The freezer will almost always interfere with the height of a corny keg and will certainly cause headaches if your intention is to have a tap tower. Mine is Whirlpool, 4.4 cu ft with no freezer. A lot of mini fridges have removable freezer compartments...

    Keggle OR 15 gallon Megapot

    What guage are those pots?

The cure for your short hose troubles

Personally I think $14 per is a steal if it: a) reduces foam b) lasts forever c) won't react with your beer at all and d) you only need one per keg. If your friend can make more, sign me up!

    Keggle OR 15 gallon Megapot

Yeah, for quality I'm leaning toward the pot, but for cost and shape (tall and narrow, less boil off) I'm leaning toward the keggle.

    Keggle OR 15 gallon Megapot

You mean you use the keggle more often, right? Or do you mean the Megapot?

    Keggle OR 15 gallon Megapot

Tools, yes, soldiering...well, I've only done it once...it's kinda easy I think. But the Keggle I'm looking at is from Adventures in Homebrewing and it comes with a 1/2 NPT bulkhead welded in already. $140 vs $250 or so for the Megapot.

    Keggle OR 15 gallon Megapot

Any thoughts? I want to use it for both 5 and 10 gallon batches, so I'm wondering if anybody has any thoughts/advice to offer. Thanks! Nick

    Penrose kettles

Thanks for your input guys but I think I'm gonna stick with the 15 gal Mega Pot from Northern Brewer for Christmas. Those welds on the Penrose worry me too much.

    Penrose kettles

There's no way I'll be able to find one locally for me to examine. I live in Canada, the land of Consumer Hell.

    Penrose kettles

They look awesome, but am I right when I say that, from pictures, it looks as if it's a pot made from a sheet of stainless steel rolled into a cylinder and welded up the side opposite of the spigot and with a bottom welded on? If I am correct on this, doesn't that seem a bit odd and potentially...
