How vigorous a boil is required?

Hey everybody, So, I'm getting (pretty sure anyway) a 15 gallon megapot of Christmas and I'm *a bit* concerned about boil overs. I've heard and read that a lot of brewers go for a full rolling boil which, of course, adds to the potential for a boil over when you add hops at the beginning...

    Please help me decide!

Thanks for the input guys. I decided to go with completing my all-grain set up, which is what I was leaning towards anyway. Thanks again for confirming that. :) Merry Christmas! Nick

    Please help me decide!

If she buys me the gear I need, I am done (for now). I'll have everything I need to do all-grain. If she buys me the Top Tier, I'll still need to buy the above stuff myself, but I'll have a sexy brew stand. I'm leaning toward option 1, but the thought of having a Top Tier is *very* tempting.

    Please help me decide!

Ok, so my wife came to me the other day and said for Christmas I could either have everything on my list (pretty much all the stuff I need to complete my all grain set up, about $400 worth of stuff) OR she'd buy me a Blichmann Top Tier with one burner shelf (I would have to buy the other burner...

What size Mega Pot for 10 gal batches?

The 15 or 20 gallon? I'm leaning towards the 15 gallon because it's a bit cheaper as well as all the people that do 10 gallon batches in 15.5 gallon kegs, but there's always that nagging potential for boil overs. Any thoughts? Thanks! Nick

Help! All my burners make soot!

The regulator is 10 PSI and is adjustable.

Help! All my burners make soot!

Both burners are brand new, and I run them off the same propane tank, but not at the same time. (one for the HLT, the other for the BK) I've used them only once each and got this problem right away. Without a pot on the stand I can get a clean blue flame with small yellow tips. Once I put a...

Help! All my burners make soot!

Hey everybody, I have two propane cookers, the style of the burner is shown in the link below, the difference being mine are generic 60,000BTU burners, not Bayou Classic 150,000 burners. BG-10 High Pressure Cast Iron Burner The problem is both of them create a lot of soot on the bottom...

1/4" or 3/16" ID hose for beer lines?

OK, cool....how hard is it to get 3/16 line on a 1/4" barb?

1/4" or 3/16" ID hose for beer lines?

Which is better? I need to order longer lines because I'm getting a bit too much foam with the 4-1/2 foot lines I currently have. I figure 8 feet each should be good enough, but I'm just wondering which ID would be better. Thanks! Nick

    Clean faucet after pouring beer?

Good question...I've been noticing and wondering the same thing. I suppose buying a Perlick tap is a solution, as they're supposed to be immune to that.

List of beers with swing-top bottles

I guess it all comes down to taste preference but, unlike those other beers you mentioned, I doubt you'd find a gram of rice in the grain bill of Grolsch.

What beer lover doesn't like Grolsch?!?!

    Why bother with stainless?

OK, so my Camaro would kill your 'stang in the 1/4 mile! ;) j/k, I think Mustangs are cool, I have just always preferred Camaros. Camaros, Challengers, Mustangs > all other cars.

    Why bother with stainless?

OK, lol, I thought you were telling me off! I'm not very fluent in "net speak" obviously.

    Why bother with stainless?

What year and model is your 'stang?

    Why bother with stainless?

I have an aluminum pot that I use for BIAB (because it's tall and narrow and fits teh bag better) but I use my SS mega-pot for all other boiling applications. The aluminum works just fine, but I am just so proud of my mega-pot. Makes no sense, I know, but there you have it.

    Why bother with stainless?

Are you joking about the cost of a commercial grade aluminum pot or are they really that expensive?

    Why bother with stainless?

Hey relax, I was just having some fun. Basically just saying that, rightly or wrongly, stainless is "the thing* to aspire to have, just like a V8 Camaro is (compared to a V6) But I don't know what you posted above even means.

    Why bother with stainless?

I know aluminum works just fine for brewing and there are no known side affects in any regard for using it, but I must say I find it funny how defensive proponents of aluminum get whenever this debate comes along. I own a 2010 V6 Camaro and am a member of a Camaro forum and V6 owners almost...
