    Geothermal glycol chiller

Since this is a hobby and we love to tinker... I built a closed dual circuit glycol thermal chiller. Attempted to include the rough drawing. I use the PEX tubing portion to bring down the initial boiling temp from ~ 212 to 150 and finish chilling with the homemade AC chiller unit. Year round the...

Pressure transfer of dry hopped beers

I use a combination of what everyone stated above and also add a filter. 1.5" Tri Clover Compatible Strainer with 3" OD Body

    Bucket v.s. conical v.s. unitank

In my opinion there are four levels of making beer... Making beer, making good beer, making really good beer and making RFG beer. SS Unitanks fall in the RFG category. Add in the temp control function and ability to more easily harvest yeast and wallah you have RFG beer that is actually saving...

    Damaged Copper counterflow chiller

If you can't desolder it; cut it out, solder a new set together and connect to the chiller with compression fittings.

Can I fit a controller to my pump to adjust the flow rate?

Thanks for the response! Trying to chill wort in one pass and goes straight to the fermenter without having to hand throttle. Finding a specific valve has been challenging as I think there needs to be some flow so the PID can sense temp change. Sounds like I will have to stick with the manual...

Can I fit a controller to my pump to adjust the flow rate?

Jumping on this thread for a controlled chilling method. New chilling setup, and looking to control wort output via a PID controller. Has anyone attempted this? Is there an electronically controlled valve out there that will work for this application or is it better to control the flow via the...

50 amp electric brewing panel OCPD

If you are building your own panel and intend on running two elements simultaneously, I suggest making sure there is adequate air flow internally for cooling. If it gets too hot inside the panel you will risk premature failure of some of your electrical parts.

Bourbon barrel purchase worth it for home brewer?

I like using the smaller barrels and recharge them with bourbon after each use.

Using Pilsner malt with a condenser lid

I'm just starting with my condenser and plan on recycling the water. Is there any issue with DMS doing that?

    Grain Mill question...

Had the same issue with my MM3. tried multiple things. Need to follow the gap directions in the manual. Also make sure that the feed lane is shaped so the grain goes straight down. I was still having issues so I asked my SIL to fabricate a housing and gears. Waiting to tap the gears and this...

    VERY slow co2 leak

Just to keep this in the thread... just found my leak and surprisingly my new gauge... both dials and the pressure relief valve leaked!

    VERY slow co2 leak

My last leak had multiple ones. The realtor had a loose PRV and loose gauge... always check even if they are new!

    Spike - Steam Condenser Lid

For my set up I had to use a bungee cord across the top.

Leaky co2, do you use duotight connectors on the gas side?

I have two kegroators both with CO2 leaks. First one took everything apart after leak testing... multiple leaks. Installed Otiker clamps instead of worm clamps. After all of that discovered through this forum, that the CO2 valve could leak if it is not open all of the way. Viola, now no leak on...

    Wort chillers

With my closed system I don't have any water waste. I have Pex tubing in the ground connected to a cooler and a pump.

    Boil off rates

If your boil is off, you might want to calibrate your PIDs temp readings, especially if it is a new set up.

How do YOU try to reduce your water usage?

Have not written it up yet but I do have a schematic. Brew Your Own magazine has not responded to my inquiry yet. If you are aware of another venue, I'd love to try it.

How do YOU try to reduce your water usage?

My home made dual circuit chilling system wastes no water each time I brew. Mixed distilled water with food grade Glycol for the coolant. Used Pex tubing buried in the yard to take the initial temp from 190 down to 130 then switch over to my home made glycol chiller. No wasted water at all for...

Some control panel wiring questions - Wire sizing & grounding

One additional note: In my 50A system there was a lot of internal heat generated when using both elements, to the point where the PID was providing false readings! Recommend you install a fan and you will need some air hole for movement. The holes should be covered to protect against contact...
