    sorghum and sour beers?

I was flipping through the latest BYO magazine and they've focused quite a bit of content this month on sour beers. I tend to enjoy a good sour beer and this got me to thinking: would the sorghum twang lend itself to a sour beer recipe ? I was thinking that the answer might be yes and...

    DFH Tweason'Ale recipe guesses?

Stefan, I'm working on a clone of this now as well. I'm going with 10lbs of fresh strawberries in secondary for a 5.25 gal batch. Do you think this is appropriate? Also were you happy with your hop bill above, or did you use the millenium or magnum that Igs recommended?

    Marking GF Brew Equipment?

It never occurred to me that using the equipment might introduce gluten. Seems bloody obvious now, but I honestly didn't think of it. Guess I need to stop lending gear out to beginner barley-based homebrewers :) In all seriousness, only my new stainless steel kettle and perty stainless steel...

    Tweason'Ale clone

Why? My wife challenged me to clone Tweason'ale by Dogfish Head, a strawberry pale ale (GF). She's also GF and loved Tweason'ale (she's a cider fan and before going GF a wheat-beer girl). I like a challenge at times. :) Tweason'ale seems like a pretty simple recipe but I haven't found an...

Grapefruit IPA results (1st GF batch)

Just an update on the beer. I have what feels like 1.5 - 2 gals left in the keg and the beer has conditioned well. I was taking a beer a week up until last week and I'm now on a beer a night schedule... because its now tasting great! Sorghum twang is there but its dropped off and mellowed...

Gluten Free might just be getting better! A LOT BETTER!

Good to see a new source of GF ingredients! I wish you success! couple of comments... the white labs liquid yeast isn't GF so you might not want it to appear on the GF page of your site. most of us learn this going into the gf brewing adventure but i wouldn't want to take the call when a...

    Gluten Free Blood Orange Hefe

    Here's the non-GF recipe (extract) http://www.popularmechanics.com/home/how-to-plans/beer-recipes-how-to-home-brew-hefeweizen#slide-2 taken from: http://www.amazon.com/Extreme-Brewing-Enthusiasts-Guide-Craft/dp/1592532934?tag=vglnkc3441-20

Gluten Free Double Chocolate Oatmeal Stout

In addition to the gluten allergy, I am also allergic to oats and I was wondering if anyone has experimented with using either quinoa or buckwheat as a substitution for the oats. I'm very interested in making a darker beer style that if GF but they tend to use oats in the grain bill.

Grapefruit IPA results (1st GF batch)

That would be fun, but I've already disqualified myself! :) 2. Your craft MUST BE bottled or in a keg upon entry into the competition. You **must have at least 5 gallons** to compete. I'm down to maybe 4 gals now. :mug:

Grapefruit IPA results (1st GF batch)

Thanks. Its in a mason jar now in a sorghum starter. I'd say I got maybe an 1/8 of a teaspoon of yeast from the dregs of two cans of Heady Topper. Basically I chilled the dregs, and decanted off the heady (I drank it, even flat its tasty) and added in about 2 cups of sorghum wort on top. No...

Grapefruit IPA results (1st GF batch)

Thanks fellas. Yeah, its mellowed significantly after 2-2.5 weeks in the keg. Poured one last night and I must say its a damn fine tasting beverage. I'm going to leave it alone until next week and see how it tastes again. I've made the mistake in the past of drinking the beer too soon and...

Sorghum Syrup v Brown Rice Syrup

my first gf batch had the sorghum twang but its mellowed in the course of 2 weeks in the keg. i'm hoping in another 2 weeks it will be gone. mine is an IPA and the hops and grapefruit zest do help mask the twang a bit too. your style may mellow over time and be quite drinkable but the twang...

    Oatmeal stout with two variants

The metallic might be the inevitable 'sorghum twang" everyone talks about. I did my first GF batch back in march and its been in the keg for about 2 weeks and the twang, originally there when I racked to keg, and even there after a week and fully carbed, is quite diminished now. I consider the...

Grapefruit IPA results (1st GF batch)

I did this recipe back in early march and its in the keg about 2 weeks now. http://ghostfishbrewing.com/ghostfishblog/gfhomebrewing-grapefruit-ipa/ All in all I am pretty happy with the result. Its tastes like a solid IPA and I'm thinking that its going to be a good basis for adaptation and...

    weighing ingredients

Hey guys, thanks a lot. I know this post was leaning towards the dumb side of legitimate questions, but you confirmed for me that: a) you all are using weights and these are not volume measurements. If you only saw me trying to spoon the honey into pyrex measuring cups, only to realize...

    weighing ingredients

I did my first gluten free batch yesterday. It was a Grapefruit IPA from Igliashon's new brewery Ghostfish IPA. The grapefruit zest had me at hello. One of the things that was new to me (well a lot was new), was getting the right amount of fermentable ingredients into the kettle. For...

    gluten removal

Just in case you didn't see it, there's a sticky on this, see "Sticky: Clarity-Ferm, Gluten Testing, and Gluten Sensitivity". Bottom line: it might address gluten but it probably doesn't address the other proteins that gluten-sensitive or celiacs are also sensitive to (my take, worth a read on...

Kegged a batch but missed my FG by a bit

OK, super... thanks for the advice. Follow-up: I kegged it (and based on what I'm hearing, probably prematurely) and pressurized overnight in the fridge. I took a sample this am and its got a bitter finish off taste that I don't like (yes, its an IPA-and I love high IBU IPAs-but I did this...
