I have had it with my Plate chiller.

I also recirc. the boiling wort from the kettle starting at about 15-20 until flame out. It goes from a clear silacone tube from the boil kettle up into the in side of the pump, thru the out side and into my Shirron plate chiller, then back into the boil kettle. I can see it cavitating due to...

    American Brown Ale?

YEah, look at the brewingnetwork's page. They have a show that did a clone of Moose Drool. Awsome stuff. Or try the Janets Brown Ale in Jamils book. McDole made up a great recipe in that one. Ender

Best Beer selection in Missouri or Midwest

I'm in Atlanta for training right now. As usually happens I find the best place a day or two before I leave. Just found out about Taco Mac in midtown. It has 140 beers on tap and atleast double that in bottles. Man! And its on the Marta line from the airport!

    Second runnings starter info

I agree, just use the 1.020 wort. It's a little low, but the yeast wont mind. To figure out the gravity numbers use this from Ray Daniels book: Begining gravity * begining volume = Ending gravity * ending volume so in your example: 20*2=X*40 so X=40/40 or 1 gallon you can use this...

    Frozen Yeast Bank- Strain Exchange?

I think this is a great idea for local people. I wouldnt trust any shipping comapny to get a frozen sample to you still frozen. That being said, shipping slants is the much better way to go.

Corny kegs - how long can they sit before you clean out an empty keg?

ever see the picture of the maggots in Jamils kegs? Now I think they sat too long. But really pepsi has been in them forever and a day before we get them. Oxi works like a champ

Who uses a Stout Faucet for regular beer?

Yup, I do it all the time. Dont even need to take out the restictor plate, although I do. I think the stout faucets are just like forward sealing faucets. At least mine have never gotten stuck.

no head at all out of a stout faucet

I've got no idea what is wrong then. It has to be something with the carbonation of the keg. I dont know what happens if it's over carb'd. From what you've said it's around 2.4 volumes of Co2? It should be around 1.3 volumse I think. Maybe this has something to do with how fast it is...

no head at all out of a stout faucet

JP, You dont need to carb it on beer gas to get it to work. I have a bitter that I brewed a few weeks ago and had it in the fridge at 36F w/ 5psi on it. Reading this thread made me dig out my other stout faucet and hook it up. Started out w/ 40psi w/ the beer gas and didn't get the cascaed...

no head at all out of a stout faucet

I cant remember what the serving pressure I used for my beers. Never had a stout on Nitro at home. Done pale ales and bitters. I do remember messing with the pressure on the beer gas tank to get the right cascade pour, but cant remember what the final setting was. I actually dont think there...

no head at all out of a stout faucet

Hey JP, just saw this post. I'm assuming this is the faucet we traded for. I know it worked on mine. I did pretty much the same as you, except for carbing in the fridge, not at room temp. I've got a couple of querstions: 1. When you pour the beer from the stout tap is there any head at...

    Finally Styrian Goldings!

Just looked on Hopsdirect and they've got Styrian Goldings. Been waiting for this. Ordered up a pound, but noticed on the order page that it said they were from th UK. Called up Hopsdirect and they confirmed that was a typo and they are from Slovenia. Said they would get it fixed soon. Ender

    Starter didn't start

pour off the wort ontop of the "yeast cake" pput it in a hydro sampleer and take a reading. If it's lower then 1.035, it did its thing. If not, throw somemore wort on it.

Dry hopping in keg with mesh tea ball

I use non waxed dental floss tied to the SS chain. Thin enough not to make it lose pressure and strong enought to hold it. Although I hate those tea ball things. Pellets leak out like there is not tomorrow!

    help solving my infection issue

The ball valve might be your problem, but maybe not. I know my ball valve sits right near the flame and gets very hot. I'm not sure if bad bacteria can survive in that type of environment. I have never taken apart my ball valve or coupler anc cleaned it out. I use a homemade "Hop Taco"...
