    Racking this fruity mead

I have used a brew bag in a brew bucket with a blueberry orange recipe that’s coming along. I didn’t use a dish towel. I put an airlock on it and swished it for 4 days in a row before placing it in a carboy with an airlock. Might try your way next time. Thanks, Art

    Racking this fruity mead

Why would I want the must off the fruit at two weeks? Flavor? I just looked at it again and it looks good. Phew! I have it a little swirl. No mold. I have used bags in other recipes in brew buckets that turned out well. With this recipe, as an experiment, I just followed the instructions to a...

    Racking this fruity mead

Nope. Never swirled this one. I have another one that told me to swirl it daily for 4 days. Not this recipe I’m checking for mold and swirling. That’s a nice racking cane suggestion. Is it ok to rack while it’s still fermenting?

    Racking this fruity mead

Actually I’m going to wait longer than the recipe says to rack because it’s still bubbling Art

    Racking this fruity mead

Hello all, This is my first try at a fruity mead with 2 oranges 18 oz. blackberries 25 raisins SG 1.122 I started this 1/15/22 and the recipe says rack in 30 days. It looks pretty thick and cloudy. Should I rack this through a strainer? Looks I should pour it through a strainer but I probably...

    Trying a one gallon Pyment

I haven’t started yet so no reading. Just trying to get some hints before I start. Ive never used tannin. I’ll have to research that. I always thought it was something leftover after fermentation that made it bitter? What yeast did you use? Thanks Art

Ok! That’s a great tip for this wine Freshman. I was just going to add some honey and shake the mess out of it! Glad you stopped me. 😬

    Trying a one gallon Pyment

Hello all, I found a 1 gallon Pyment recipe that uses Juicy Juice. I was wondering if anyone has tried this and added things to it to improve it... 64 oz White grape Juicy Juice no preservatives 2 pounds honey and 1 pound for back sweetening Red Star Premier Blanc EC 118 pretty simple, warm...

SG readings of my Blueberry Muffin Mead

Hey Dan O, Im going to start a few more questions on another strand. Hope you follow! I like your comments but let me ask you here. I’m going to back sweeten a blueberry mead with honey. I started it 11/27/21 with Lavin Bougovin RC 212 yeast and it looks like it is done fermenting. I want to add...

SG readings of my Blueberry Muffin Mead

This is the one the hydrometer went straight to the bottom but I’ll let you know! It’s good to have honest family members, otherwise I’ll keep making it! Thing is, I’ve never tasted alcohol before so I depend on my wife and family. All I got anyway! Wife likes sweet, Sisters like strong and dry...

SG readings of my Blueberry Muffin Mead

I really appreciate it Dan O! I just try things with all this honey we have and I like your tips. They help! I started off with beer and my family is kind enough to let me know I never have to do that again. 🤣 Right now I have a Blueberry Orange that looks like is done bubbling ( the one I...

You add a cinnamon stick and a vanilla bean! I made this one before without the muffin part because I didn’t have cinnamon or vanilla but the wife loved it!…after I back sweetened if of course!

SG readings of my Blueberry Muffin Mead

Dan O, I’m pretty sure I’m reading the SG scale, the Black one. BUT now I have the picture with the break down you gave me helps. So on the black SG scale, a OG reading of 39 would be around 1.002 according to the picture you sent? Another thing I did wrong with the other batch is I didn’t fill...

SG readings of my Blueberry Muffin Mead

While I’m on a roll, let me ask this. Recently, I did another blueberry Orange mead in a brew bucket. I didn’t take a SG reading then but 4 days later, the recipe tells me to transfer into a carboy when I tried to take a SG reading. The hydrometer went all the way to the bottom. What does that...

SG readings of my Blueberry Muffin Mead

I use this refractometer to learn how much water is in my honey. I place a drop on the end and look through the other end up to a light and read the scales. Wish this was as easy!
