Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

In your case it would be simple. Small piece of tubing connected to port and other end to racking cane and you'd be good. The base does seem flimsy and w/o an extra you do have to plan your moves, but it can be done. Only 2nd time I'm using my 2 but I like splitting batches to test yeast profiles

    Have you tested your thermometer?

Absolutely you must calibrate. Two points- freezing & boiling. http://www.in.gov/isdh/files/ThermometerCalibration__3_.pdf

    Grainfather!!

Figured I'd post my results today. Brewing a Hazlenut Toffee Porter (AIH present from my daughter) and with grain bill of: 8.25# 2 Row, 1# Fl Barley, 1# Crystal 60, 1/2# Black Malt & 1/2# Chocolate Malt, I was able to sparge 3.3g in 25min; let it sit until it became quiet (another 5 min) so...

What is a good percentage of flaked oats in a stout?

I combo'd Flaked Oats (13.3%) and Flaked Barley (7.6%) for a total of 21% of the grist on an Oatmeal Stout after previously at FO (8.9%) & FB (4.4%). I liked the higher ratios better, but it is all personal taste.

    Grainfather!!

The GF instructions recommend draining off 1st runnings and then sparge. For one you need to get the top plate down first. I usually let it drain well but have started maybe a bit earlier a few times, both results were fine. Pushing the top plate down on grain bed is just until the plate shows...

    Grainfather!!

Surface water is subject to changes based on runoff, so its always possible but if Lake Lanier is rather large and no new runoff has been added, then I'd agree, not a water issue. This is NOT a common occurrence, that's for sure. I've read some folks have had them, but think that's in the...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

No Sh*t!! I thought for sure it was a typo and meant to be dinner party. Never heard of that one!

    Grainfather!!

Odd. Why would he got a stuck sparge on this previously without rice hulls? That presumes a fine crush, as there should be no reason to add rice hulls with that grain bill. Then to get the fast sparge with one cup (not pound, right??!) is a bit odd too. There are two unknown variables- the...

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

I assume you meant add warm "water"? No, I simply swirled it up from what beer was left on yeast. It's a smaller amount as it's the mini bucket (had about 2.75g of wort) so it all fit in one large mason jar. I plan to test yeast impacts on same worts by splitting batches so we'll see how this...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Quoting myself from late Nov. Now enjoying this brew. Worst part is this was part of a double brew day with my buddy and I shared the 60 bottles with him! :) This one turned out great, and I will keep my changes (no disrespect to the original!). I like the increase in chocolate (not overly sweet...

Ok, I'll ask. Diaper party??! :)

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

I must have missed you overbuild and not harvest, I assumed most harvest if they have a conical. Any reason you made that choice? Being new to the (mini) bucket, anyone here harvest from their buckets as I did?(swirl and pour). Curious on how that's worked for others as conical harvesting...

    Grainfather!!

I should've quoted this above Tang. You were the first here to really push this and post as you said. I was still in the early stages of hitting with a strike temp and you came along with mash bed temp measurements. Kudos to you! You're welcome, it helps, Tang can tell you too!

    Sparging on the Grainfather

Opposite, coarser quicker, finer slower (and potential for stuck). That's what I thought too!
  15. K

    Grainfather!!

That is correct. You can use a calculator like on Brew365 for strike temp, I used to all the time back in the cooler MLT days, works like a charm then and now too. BUT, ignore the GF controller temp display and take the temp of the grain bed after you thoroughly dough in. Take multiple places...

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

Bucket is 1/2 price of Chronical. Were the coolers and various attachments free?! :). Assuming you harvest yeast, didn't you find it less risky for infection w/Chronical than brew bucket? I just got mini brew buckets to split batches for different yeasts and poured out slurry from the bucket...

What are you doing instead of brewing this weekend?

Thanks for the reminder! Put together my kitchen cabinets from Barker cabinets (RTA) for new kitchen island. Old one will be repurposed for basement brewery!

What came in the mail for you today?

My RTA kitchen cabinets from Barker Cabinets for my new island to finish off kitchen. Why is this brewing related? Besides getting this "checked off the to-do list", and really enjoying it, the existing long tables that constitute our island will make it downstairs to my brewing area! :)

THAT GUY at the brewery tour.

A tour story, not a "That Guy" story but thought I'd add my experience. I was in Ireland on a work trip in summer of 2001 and decided to arrive on Sat am to tour on the weekend. I spent Sat walking around quite a bit, trying to stave off jet lag. On Sunday I had enough of walking and took a bus...

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

I've always filled my fermenter (Chronical 7g) with dip tube pointed up, and found on all batches that as I rotated down I didn't pickup trub, this has been 2yrs now, many batches! This year I got two mini-brew buckets as I want to split batches to try different yeasts. I racked last w/e and had...
