    Grainfather!!

No worries. As Ed said use your ferm chamber to cool to pitch temps. You can pre chill your cooling water if you care. Or not. Your beer will be just fine

Sorry for the messy quote response here- it's late!!

    Grainfather!!

Why would you say that? I think it's location is solely manufacturing fitting. I tip the GF towards the pump and capture more than leaving it flat (as do many others here). No reason to leave that fine wort behind! Slow down your recirc so it doesn't go over the overflow pipe and you'll...

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

There likely are folks that wish to treat this as a BIAB concept as you suggest and those as a cheaper GF, which is how this thread started. The M&B is designed w/sparge step. I have a GF and was interested (if I ever needed to replace my GF), but the controller is disappointing. I'd like to see...

If you're using set profile go in and reset up a profile. If you are using set point, even easier, change set point! I do that regularly

You transfer with your hop basket still in the boiler? Never thought of that. I always pull it out early on. Any reason? Additional hop utilization you're going for, or just never thought about not doing it that way?! I figure want to drain it while it's pumping.

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

Sounds like a little babysitting is in order if you desire to heat up earlier than a 6F drop. Why not when temp falls 2, put set pt up 6 to get it to turn on? Then turn back down when it comes up to where you want (or +1-2) to get it to stop? Annoying way to get around it (like the idea of used...

New Brewer. Question on when I can bottle.

Oh and I forgot. That oxygenation issue? Overstated. Unless long aging (and you won't for a cream ale) it will be fine.

New Brewer. Question on when I can bottle.

Relax and enjoy! I typically ferment for 2 weeks, sometimes 3, and as said previously the lighter beers are quicker. Many folks here talk about cream ales finishing up in 9 days. I haven't tasted their beers but I do believe this is quite possible. Bottle carb can be completed in one week at...

    Grainfather!!

Exactly!! Other than for bling factor, it's not needed.

    Grainfather!!

Ed has perfectly replied here below to your question. Don't mess with it, sight glass could easily be broken off and the simplicity and duplicity of the GF just doesn't require one.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Hmmm, I haven't picked up any issues with different style beers using slurry but have thought there could be an impact. Might be something to test. I prefer not to rinse if there isn't an advantage but am all for it if it does. Also been thinking of freezing yeasts as I may not repeat the same...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Why do you wash yeast? Seems opinion has moved to harvesting yeast as is and repitch slurry. This is what I've done for years now without any issues. Quick and effective.

    Grainfather!!

Ask the seller if the GF comes with a check valve on the recirc tube. This is the 2nd gen that contains a ball and spring. I think this is only one before the connect came out. Good luck!

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

Why? The grain bed will control temp much differently than a water bath. If you recirc, insulate and measure grain bed temps you will be well on your way to your goal of maintaining mash bed temps- just like those of us who did prior in our cooler MLT. Best of luck with the M&B.

    Ocean County NJ Buy #3

Hi Squeek- I just paid, thanks! As one of the PA contingent, will also be interested in your plans. Thanks!

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

Yes. For the GF I did and it works well. For this I'd answer a few questions- is boiler hot to touch? If yes, then heat loss, so need to insulate. Then I'd ask where are you measuring temp? I'd ignore controller and focus on measuring grain bed (at dough in, possibly 10 min or so into mash)...

Huge Hank the Cowdog fan! Read to my daughter many many of those and we're holding our "library" of them for next generation. Next dog might be Drover.. Good name choices!

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

Would be helpful to hear from users of M&B that set up a direct recirc like the GF has if the double wall is enough. The first example here of recirc is not comparable to GF or efficient. If outside boiler is hot to touch, insulate! I'm betting you'll want that, and an air space is easy and adds...

    Grainfather!!

I'm in exactly the same camp. I don't mash step, other than a mash out(it helps to shorten time to boil from mash to boil). The delay start is a great advantage but I can do that with a much cheaper timer. It's indeed a nicer look but I see it mostly as a gadget I don't need, however I do get...
