Just 10 bottles from a 2.5 gallon batch?

    128 oz / gal X 2.5 gal = 320 oz / 12 oz per bottle = 26 bottles If you only got 10, someone did something wrong...

50 foot 1/2 inch SS coil

More props to V-twin for sharing his tubing bender design. I built one this past week, bent the tubing today with great results. I initially tried to do the bend/ziptie/wife method and got a couple kinks. Before I ruined it, I took the time to build make V-twin's tubing bender and all is...

    Gas Burner

Too vague of a question to give a reasonable answer. Need to have an idea on what burner one is using, what kind of batch one is making and what one is making it in...

    Dry hop after vigorous ferment?

You need to wait for fermentation to finish, then dry hop for ~7 days before bottling. The vigor of the fermentation process has nothing to do with dry hopping or not, just if you want the aroma of hops in your finished product...

50 foot 1/2 inch SS coil

Thanks for the follow-up and link. Good ole' Orchard Supply. Loved that place when I lived in CA, we have nothing that carries the extent of it out here. I wound up finding some pulley wheels from McMaster-Carr and ordered them. I'll have to fabricate the rest of it but that shouldn't be...

50 foot 1/2 inch SS coil

X2 on the pulleys. I went on a hunt for them today and came up empty at the local Ace, Sears, Home Depot and Lowes. Nice design, bought all the other components to build it, just couldn't find the pulleys anywhere around these parts...

    two cooling questions

1 - yes, connect just like connecting two garden hoses together. 2 - pump needed for proper results.

    Miller Diversion tig Welder

I own the Diversion 180 and appreciate how well the unit works. I do some garage fabrication work, not a professional welder by any means. I'm self-taught (with a Miller MIG 180 w/autoset) and started TIG welding last year. I've been welding for 5 years, building/fabricating off-road "stuff"...

    Double IPA

My first brew was the True Brew Double IPA kit, supposedly a clone of the DFH 90 min. It came out great, tasted it side-by-side with the DFH and it was very close, according to my taste buds. I tried to build a recipe at my LHBS but found many of the needed hops are hard to find this time...

    Getting old labels off

I went through various attempts to remove labels, worse I've found were Smuttynose, one of my fav brews. We spent days with hot water, scaping with paint scrapers/plastic putty knives and even broke down using "Goof-off". Finally tried the Oxyclean method, full scoop in 5 gal of hot...

    What to do in Raleigh

Do you have a car? I'd go to Tyler's Taproom in Apex (Apex is a "bedroom" community of Raleigh), very nice selection of craft brews and many local brewerys. Another good spot is McGregor Ale House. Both have good food. Downtown, I'd hit Tir na nOg Irish Pub, The Hiberian Irish Pub and Mellow...

    Dry Hopping in Carboy

I may be getting bad advice from a friend for my first batch. Help?

Not sure if I'd agree. What did the instructions with the kit say? Doing an all-grain extracts the sugar from the grain so I'm at a loss as to why one would think the extract is any more/less sugar. A good idea would be to post the ingredient list so it can be analyzed by the experts or...

    2nd batch, Traditional Bock...

Moved the batch into the $50 chest freezer, controlled by the ebay controller. Siting at 2.2 C (37 F) for 3 more weeks. Good thing the first batch is done and tasting fantastic, all is good on the home brew front...:mug:

A few questions before I start my 1st brew...

I'm enjoying the first beer from my first batch. I've had tastes, opened one this past Sat and shared with friends but it wasn't cold. I couldn't be more pleased. I know it will only get better but I can't expect much better in all honesty. I like to think I'm a fair judge of beers and its...

    Dogfish Head 90 minute clone?

My first brew was a clone, from "True Brew, Double IPA". Its just been bottled and waiting for it to condition, I'll let it sit a couple more weeks to finish in the bottle. Here is the thread I started doing my first brew with an ingredient list...
