    Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen = WOW

Just came back from Schenkerla and want to make your recipe for starters. Have you brewed the beer again? Any changes? I may try to smoke malt….

    Phantasm NEIPA

I don’t think it’s worth it as a regular home beer but I’m glad I did the brew with it because it is different. It did produce a fruity beer I may describe as if it were a Sunday brunch mamosa. Is this the Sauvignon Blanc skins that have done it? I thought the thiols give aroma and not flavor...

    Phantasm NEIPA

This is the water profile: Ca 100 Mg 5 Na 22 Cl 171 SO 85. I start with RO water. It’s not salty. The sodium metabisulfate is below flavor threshold and is there as a oxygen reduction effort. Not necessary but I still do it.

    Phantasm NEIPA

Yes- I was fortunate to find it in stock at that store but haven’t been able to find it in stock anywhere since. Maybe next season.

    Phantasm NEIPA

I’d be happy to share. I brewed the beer and took it to my brew club tonight. Overwhelmingly the response was positive. Comments were mellow, tropical, very drinkable. I additionally might describe it as a bit of mamosa flavor. It’s interesting. The question I have is was in in part due to...

Belgian ale, I'm trying and failing.. but now?

I brewed a Belgian golden strong ale- Duvel clone. I did a step at 131, 146, and mash out 168 (12lb Begian Pilsner). Pitched 2 pack WLP570 and 1 pack Wyeast 1388 at 64 (store didn’t have enough-I didn’t have time for a starter )and have been raising temp to 80 degrees over the last 5 days...

    SS Brewtech Grain Mill gap

I got a helpful response from SS Brewtech regarding their grain mill. Thanks for reaching out. Because our Grain Mill uses a different type of roller design (machine fluted rollers instead of knurled rollers) a lot of "conventional wisdom" about homebrew mills doesn't translate directly over to...

    SS Brewtech Grain Mill gap

Curious what gap setting you’re using for the SSBrewtech grain mill. Change it for which malts? I’m new to milling and saw sieve test results indicating gap -1/.045in/1.15mm as the best. I ran 2-row through various gaps to check. That .045in gap produced too much powder and stuck mash...

How to use (2) Tilt Hydrometers?

I have two Tilts- an older version and a newer version (larger with greater range). I have an old iPhone (8) that I leaved plugged into its charger and is set by my two fermenters, SS Brewtech Chronograph and Unitank. The Tilt app on that iPhone gets the signal just fine and because the iPhone...

    California Common critique

I consider that it might be the SG measurement itself. However I discounted that because the original gravity of 1.064 is very close to the estimated 1.061. That measurement was done with a refractometer and confirmed with a hydrometer which also matched up to the Tilt when dropped into the...

    California Common critique

I think it was between 150 to 145 only five minutes. That’s the time that I stirred up the mash but then I got the rims on and I got up to 152 by the end of the 5 minutes. I then held it at 1:52 for one hour. The rims held it right at 1:52 so it was really nice. I had a sparge issue which I...

    California Common critique

Just brewed a California common style beer. First batch brewed on Blichmanns Pilot 5 gal. Detailed notes because I’m just starting to use Blichmanns system and SS Unitank. I welcome any critique. I used RO water so additions are shown. Specific question is why did I get such a lower AFG...
