Kenmore 6.9 cu. ft. Chest Freezer?

I recently bought a GE 7.0 cu. ft. and I can fit one fermenting bucket in the bottom and if I build a small step I can fit another one on the compressor hump. Based on the height of my bucket (with airlock) the lid will close with about an inch to spare for the one on the hump. If you want to...

Add Grain to Hot Water or Cold

I've only done a few all grain batches so far but had a question regarding the process. I have a stainless 42 qt. polarwear stock pot with valve and thermometer for my MLT, so I'm not using a cooler. Is it better to add the grain to the water, then heat it. Or heat the water first, then...

Beer is fermenting @ 66* ambient-- still smells banana-y

What yeast? I brewed a Belgian awhile back with WLP 500 and I had a strong banana aroma as well. After reading the reviews for that strain on White Labs website it turns out that the banana smell is very typical for that type of yeast.

    Lock for my fridges...

Leave a few bottles of "Cayenne Stout" in your fridge. Or have HBT users send you bottles from infected batches.

3/8 inch ID silicone tubing on 1/2 in barbs?

I've done it. One tip is to dip the end of the silicon tubing in hot/boiling water first as it makes it much more pliable.

    Tip for Immersion Chiller users....

Another tip...I was brewing yesterday and put my IC in the wort for the last 15 of the boil. A few minutes later I hear water dripping. I never thought to drain the water out of the IC after my last batch and when it heated up/boiled it started pouring out into my wort. I just slid it over to...

Anyone in Miami or South Florida?!?!?

I was just there on Saturday. They had a brew class is session when I was there...I think they have one every Saturday. I wasn't there for the class, just picking up ingredients for an IPA. Dave, the proprietor, is very friendly and is a good source of info. They carry alot of extract...

Home brewers. Do you name your beers?

I've been naming mine. It's just part of the fun. As far as labels, there was a thread in the label forum where someone was using 3/4 inch circular labels that you can print and adhere them to the bottle cap. Not as good as a traditional label but you don't have to clean them off the...

AG brewing in pot with false bottom

I have a polarware 42 qt. MLT with one of those domed false bottoms. I've only done 2 AG batches so far but have had no problems with scorching. The dome/false bottom keeps the grain from sitting on the bottom. There is about an inch of space from the outer edges of the dome to the kettle...

Things that come out of the SWMBO's mouth!

Her: (After UPS delivers shipment) "Do you really need more brewing equipment?" Me: "Did you really need that pair of shoes you bought yesterday?" Argument averted. (Works with fishing equipment as well.) A few weeks ago I was leaving for work (24 hour shift) and placed a blow off tube...

    angry at WLP500

I have a batch in secondary right now with WLP500. I transferred it after 13 days. It started at 1.088 and I transferred it at 1.015. Most of the activity was done in about 8 or 9 days so you should be right on track. Good tips on cold crashing as mine is still hazy after almost a week in...

Anyone in Miami or South Florida?!?!?

I've been to Brew Box Miami's new shop. They seem to have a good selection and the gentleman who was there was very helpful. I'm glad there is a local shop in my area.

    Greeting from South Florida

I've been snooping on the site for awhile and decided it was finally time to join. I have been impressed with this forum thus far with regard to the member's knowledge and, more importantly, everybodys willingness to share their knowledge...we're all here to become better brewers and I'm happy...
