AG with a 4 gallon boil but a 5 gallon batch size

BIAB brewers do this sometimes, in order to brew higher gravity batches than their pot size allows. Believe its referred to as maxi-BIAB. You can read more about it on the BAIBrewer website.

Electric Brewing with keggle in apartment help

Let the experts chime in...but from what I've read here most kitchens are required to have 2 gfi outlets on separate 15A circuits. 120v*15A=1800w but you'd be better off running two 1500w elements to be safe. You can run extension cords as long as they're rated for that amperage. But if I were...

    First AG Brew Tomorrow

I do the aussie style no-sparge BIAB and I've made this recipe before. If you want to do a no sparge BIAB you add all the water you're going to use from the very beginning. So plug it into beersmith and see what your pre-boil volume needs to be and add more to account for grain absorption. For...

    fan wiring

Yes leave the tach wire disconnected. You might want to double check which one is the tach wire. In computers the black is ground, red is 5v, yellow is 12v, so if its a 12v fan it may be running off the black and yellow wires and the red could be the tach.

    Wort absorption for BIAB

I get about this value as well. Sometimes even as low as 0.25 quarts/lb.

    BIAB bag for grain

Call me lazy but I've used it in two ways: 1) just cut it in a big circle and sewed up the edges to prevent fraying, or 2) just left it in a rectangle as I bought it and not sewn anything. Either method makes a big piece of fabric with no seems to worry about, and when you pick it up it drains...

Correcting batch volume size when using priming calculators

Yes you should account for this, I overcarbed my doppelbock with this mistake. Use a priming sugar calculator. Also helps to calibrate your bottling bucket by pouring in 1 gallon of water at a time while marking it with a sharpie. Sometimes the bucket's markings can be way off.

Dry Hopping in Keg w Pellets

Well you can certainly try it and be true the Export IPA roots. My understanding is the alcohol will eventually help extract other flavors from the hops besides the tasty ones derived from the oil. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f13/dry-hopping-how-long-do-you-dry-hop-162684/

Dry Hopping in Keg w Pellets

Pellets will be fine in the mesh bags. Most people don't dry hop for 7 weeks more like 7 days, so you might want to rethink that strategy. I brewed a batch last year where I didn't get around to bottling in time before leaving for a month. 4 weeks of dry hopping with Amarillo left some...

will a second keezer help long term keg storage?

Yea let to sit for 3 weeks at room temp then hook it up to gas. Set the pressure depending on the temperature and the desired volume of CO2 (http://www.iancrockett.com/brewing/info/forcecarb.shtml). You'll eventually reach equilibrium. Because you already primed it, it won't take as long to get...

will a second keezer help long term keg storage?

Like I said, I don't know the science either but I've read it numerous times and it works. see http://brewwiki.com/index.php/Kegging#Kegging_with_Natural_Carbonation The calculator in Beersmith calculates it in this fashion as well. So I'm sure you can find a formula for this out there...

will a second keezer help long term keg storage?

Not true. I don't know the science behind it but you use about half the amount of priming sugar if you're kegging rather than bottling. Use a carbonation calculator it will tell you.

Can't find a vibrating football game

How about attaching a tray or sheet of plywood or something to a random orbital sander? Although I think the vibrator is the sexier option.

    Unwanted "Belgian" flavors - help!

I think I have read on here before about people saying one-step is not a proper sanitizer. Most people here prefer star san or idophor.

I wish I knew then what I know now.... A list of some lessons learned!

Great post overall but I disagree with the necessity of a wort chiller and secondary. I and a lot of people on this forum make great beer with the no chill and long primary methods.

    Freeze mash runnings?

I think this would be more time consuming/trouble than its worth to construct an entire beer from frozen bits and pieces. And I can't imagine the final product would taste as good as a freshly made batch. That being said I do freeze a few extra liters here and there and use them for starters...

    Plate Chiller or Immersion?????

Jamil would vote for the immersion chiller because he argues chilling the entire volume of wort at once enables you to lock in the flavors and aroma of your late addition hops better. If you make a IC with 50ft of 1/2" copper you have so much surface area it would probably compare pretty well...
