    Grant for rims system

Shoot. I thought this thread was going to be about how to receive a gift of money from the government to buy a RIMS system. Guess i'll have to fund my own now.

    Seriously reconsidering going all grain

ditto this. it sounds like you already bought equipment, but BIAB is really easy and REALLY cheap. stick with it. good times lie ahead. FYI, I think doing extract can make fine beer, so that's not the point of my comment. To me it just feels a little more fun to start with grain.

Would chilling with ice in the brew be crazy?

Great, thanks a lot sean. Please post the results of your 8-9 gallon IPA when you're done with it. BTW, that just gave me an exciting idea. My setup is capable of full volume boils (6 gallons) on the stove. If I do ice-chill, i could possibly brew 10 gallon batches using this method. :ban:

Would chilling with ice in the brew be crazy?

Good questions BFB. What i did on my last batch was to boil 2 gallons of water, then put them straight into a sealed, sanitized fermenter and freeze the whole block solid. Keep it closed until brew day, and then siphon the just-boiled wort straight into that fermenter with the big block of...

Not mine but good deal BREWPOT / HLT 9 GALLON STAINLESS HOMEBREW

i have the same report as skies (except no dented handle.) Very good guy and i'd do business again. I was surprised by the no nipple b/c i'd never seen that before (and i didn't ask.) So there's nothing that can be added now for a diptube? I'll try to think of something, but maybe i'll...

    first dry hop

i tried a hop tea once and got a real grassy flavor. so be careful, might want to test before going for it on a full batch.

Would chilling with ice in the brew be crazy?

An update on the procedure here. I just brewed today and chilled 4 gallons of wort with 2 gals of ice and hit 90 deg in a couple mins, exactly as specified above. I might try the 2.5/3.5 next time. Any disadvantages to the less than full boil other than lower hop util?

    What happed to Guinness?

I have somewhat the same experience with Guinness as OP. I don't think it's a bad beer now, it's just that i used to drink it ALL the time, and now i probably have 1-2 a year when i look at the beer menu and there is nothing else palatable. It'll do in a pinch, but not a go-to beer.

    Is mixing lager yeasts OK?

OK, thanks for the help on that...like i said, first time, so i didn't even know the process. I'll check out Mr. Malty for the proper rates and see if he's got any more info on the basic technique. No need to mix then.

    Is mixing lager yeasts OK?

I am brewing a doppelbock this weekend, and i am planning to ferment it on the yeast cake of my Vienna Lager brewed with w34/70. But just for good measure, i was planning to pitch another packet of saflager s-23 (i don't have any more 34/70.) Is there any problem with having 2 lager yeast...

Hit 90 % efficiency today and chilled in 12 minutes !!! BAIB

BIAB is very easy, no doubt. Golddiggie, hope you are putting that group buy grain to use! I think you can go with a finer crush for sure, but 80% is pretty efficient anyway. I think my crush is in the .027 neighborhood, have to check again tonight to be sure.
