    Completely removing creosote/smoke from metal

Thanks, I went ahead and used the brewkettle. I probably won't again, not because it was tough to clean (it wasn't) but the hassle of loading the coals and wood chips from the top was not something I care to repeat. It turned out really nice but had to be turned a few times to smoke evenly. I...

    Completely removing creosote/smoke from metal

I am a homebrewer who is trying out some buckboard bacon (shoulder roast instead of belly) and dont have a smoker at home. I work at a BBQ and Craft Beer restaurant so I could have the pitmaster take care of it for me but I wan't to do this myself. I could use my clay Pizza oven but that would...

    Home brewing in Japan

Hi espyusmc! Welcome to the big Japan thread! You can use the search feature to find things within this rambling conversation if that helps you skip the reading. There is a link to a document in the first post that contains some useful (though somewhat dated) information. Cheers! B

Here's a pic of one of the prizes. This is a burnt and sanded short handle, the grain is wavy and the softer wood between "winter wood" is worn away so the texture feels really good in the grip.

I just racked my American Stout to keg, it was sitting on bourbon barrel chips for a week. A bit of smoked malt in there too. This is tasty! I put a liter of it in a PET bottle that I will force-carb and bring to the home brew contest on the 9th. I have some that I bottled before the bourbon...

    Korea microbreweries???

I live in Japan and was speaking with a friend who was helping out Hitachino Nest at Keyaki Hiroba beerfestival last month. He told me he was currently consulting in Korea for them since they were in a process of setting up a brewery in Korea. I don't know if they will be doing their regular...

    Home brewing in Japan

Hello! I don't think it was a coffee stout but its been a while since I tasted it. I wouldn't even call it a stout but that's what they write on the can/bottle. It is a schwarzbier but stout is easier to fit on a can and something most beer drinkers in Japan will be able to get. I had a...

    Home brewing in Japan

You are asking about homebrew stores in Japan. You need to catch up on some things here. Homebrewing over 1% is illegal as far as the tax office is concerned, so homebrew stores just don't physically exist in Yokosuka or the surrounding country. Tek mentioned the same thing I suggest; just...

    Home brewing in Japan

The weather is cooling off and I have brewing on my mind again! Early summer was too busy with the new job to even consider spending my free time brewing. Who wants to boil wort in a 40C kitchen anyway when you just want to cool down? My equipment has changed up since my last brew, so I am...

    Japan Hops Trading -

The happami party will likely be in November in Yoyogi park assuming all goes well. I have 12 gm of dried and vacuum packed Magnum in the freezer and more on the plant now. Probably get 40-60 gm total if I am lucky. Enough for a brew at least :D Centennial have probably only 20gm on them at...

Plastic 1/6 bbl pub kegs- anyone tried em?

Has anyone used these as fermenters? In Japan it is hard to find an economical fermenting container - 4700 yen for a 6 gallon pail? 8100 yen for a 23 liter better bottle!? I can get the pubkegs for free second-hand so I really want to convert them to use as fermenters initially. Anyone have...

    Japan Hops Trading -

I am starting to see a bunch of buds growing on the centennial now. Looks like cutting it back delayed the growth of them a bit but its better to be rid of the mites! The cascade is slowly but surely climbing up my ume tree with thin bines. Not very big but I have it in a shaded spot out of...

    Japan Hops Trading -

My Centennial keeps putting out fresh growth after lopping off everything a few weeks back. Magnum has buds on it now and has reached the roof of the house in a broad "V" lattice made from cucumber netting. The Homestead hops have been intergrowing with a cherry tomato plant, that has been...
