In search of simple IPA recipe

Thanks for this recipe link Clonefarmer. I'll probably be brewing it this week. A few questions for you, assuming you've brewed this recipe: 1. You steeped your grains until your water reached 175F then sparged, right? 2. Would you recommend liquid or dry for the extracts? 3. Were the...

In search of simple IPA recipe

Hey homebrewers- Looking for a straightforward IPA recipe for my third brew batch that is not partial mash, all-grain or from a kit. Ideally I'd love to find a Goose Island clone. I've come across some really awesome looking IPA recipes but am not ready for AG and do not have all the right...

    Hefe fermentation advice

I agree with you totally on haazy Hefe's. I pitched White Labs 300 (Hefe yeast). The wort has been fermenting since last Sunday (4.19), at first quite vigorously but has slowed in the last 36-48 hours. I thought the 52F might be to cold but thought it might improve the fermentation. Perhaps...

    Hefe fermentation advice

Alright, I've finally concluded after reading a bunch of threads that I will not be going to a secondary with my recently brewed Hefe. I now plan on keeping it in the primary for 2 weeks (brew date 4.19) which has been fermenting at a constant 65F. Since I'm not planning on racking to secondary...

Alright, I've finally concluded after reading a bunch of threads that I will not be going to a secondary with my recently brewed Hefe. Stainless steel vs. Aluminum

Sweet! nice rig AnOldUR. Any advice on how to build it with ball valve and thermometer? (I don't think I need a sight glass at this time). I've been searching through the DIY threads and most of them are dealing with projects with much greater sophistication. I'm still a noo-b thanks

    Stainless steel vs. Aluminum

Thanks for rapid reply llazy llama. I've actually read the This vs. That analysis, but I never scrolled down past the omitted threads. Is there a DIY thread on the site that explains how to convert a kettle and attach ball valve and thermometer? I'd like to save some cash and do it myself if...

    Stainless steel vs. Aluminum

couple questions on alum vs. stainless: I've brewed two batches using a 5 gal stainless steel kettle but want to increase my brewing volume and do full boils and be able to take my operation outdoors. I recently came across a turkey fryer set up (7.5 gal kettle and burner) but think it's made...

2nd brew batch - Simple Hefe recipe

Thanx for the recipe bjzelectric. Got a question for you, I didn't see irish moss/whirfloc in your recipe. Did you not use any? I'm brewing now according to the recipe I have and am considering tossing some in. I know it's purpose is to clear up the wort in fermentation. I also know that a...

2nd brew batch - Simple Hefe recipe

Hey homebrew homies- Got a couple of quick questions on the below recipe a buddy passed along for brewing a Hefe: 8.5 lbs Wheat Liquid Malt Extract (LME) 1 oz Hallertau (4% AA – full boil) White Labs Hefeweizen (WLP300) [ SG 1.050 / FG 1.012] The package of Hallertau I picked...

    Yeast Types/Strains & Taste Guide

Hey homebrew homies! Does anyone know if there is a sticky on the site that has a listing of the various yeast types and tastes? For example, I know that a WPL 300 will produce more banana flavors and that WPL 351 will produce more clove like flavors. I'm looking for a comprehensive list so...

    Continental Pilsner Fermentation Temps

Since I can pretty much control this now I'd like to brew a nice hoppy IPA with an ABV of around 6-7% (I've probably described a ton of IPAs but I'm looking for a hop finish similar to that of Goose Island). Not sure if I'm ready to go AG on this batch but if you have a recipe you can share that...

    Continental Pilsner Fermentation Temps

Excellent. This will give me a reason to brew my second batch of homebrew while I wait. :ban: I'm interested in brewing an IPA, any recco's on this for a second batch??? Is too soon for this style beer?

    Continental Pilsner Fermentation Temps

Whew! This is good to hear. Since I was trying to follow the 1-2-3 timeline, if I keep the wort in the primary for 10-14 days before racking, should I then reduce the amount of time the wort stays in the secondary or should it still stay for 2 weeks?

    Continental Pilsner Fermentation Temps

My wife just clobbered me in the head with a reminder that we are out of town this weekend. Can I rack to the secondary after only 6 days in primary (Friday)? Can I over ferment the primary if I wait until Monday to rack to secondary?
