    Brewing calculators

Hey homebrewers- I'm gradually progressing to my goal of AG brewing and am now entering the full boil stage (factoring hops utilization, fermentables, etc.) and recipe creation. I know there are several calculators out there like BeerSmith, ProMash, etc., but was wondering if anyone can vouch...

So I bought a Wheat beer kit...

I recently brewed a wheat beer and pitched WLP300 (Hefeweizen Ale Yeast). There beer was delicious but was disappointed with the overpowered banana/clove esters. Very strong. If you decide to go with WLP yeast, I would highly reccomend using WLP320 as it will not leave as strong a nose as the...

    Questions on Dry Hopping

I recently dry hopped my IPA with 1oz. Centennial. I bottled it about 5 days ago and when I tasted a sample it was awesome! Check out these two links. I used them to help me understand and execute the process. Maybe you will find them useful as well. cheers axr...

    Confusion about steeping

Thanks for the explanation Yooper. Given this, can I then just steep my grains in the smaller water volume for the recommended amount of time then add this wort to a larger kettle with 3-4 gallons of water that is nearing or already reached boiling temperature? thanks axr

Reynolds Handi Vac for Hops Storage, any updates?

The good thing about the Reynolds handi-vac bags is that they are reusable if not damaged... offering some cost svaings. I can probably get 2-3 uses (conservatively) before using a new one.

Reynolds Handi Vac for Hops Storage, any updates?

I use the Reynolds Handi-vac for storing small qty's of hops .5 - ~3.0 oz. I think it works fine but not ideal for long term storage/sealing. axr

    bulkhead build for keg

Thanks physfarm. Are there any inherent issues/concerns with forged brass? It seems like it would be able to handle brewing temps/pressure. What caught my attention was the M/F fittings and the thought of making the bulkhead a little more streamlined (I've seen some bulkheads come out 5-6"...

    bulkhead build for keg

Hey homebrewers- I'm in the process of sourcing parts for my welded bulkhead build on my keg (acquired legally :rockin:). I'll be using a 1/2" stainless steel coupler on the keg and was going to use a 1/2" SS nipple to attach the ball valve to the coupler until I saw this: Amazon.com...

IPA in 2ndry - continued fermentation or off gassing??

Thanks Rocketman. There hasn't been any temp flcutuation as it still in same room at same temp - 70F. There are some little floating bubbles on the brew surface that I hadn't seen before in my other batches, nor have experienced 2ndry activity. I just wanted to make sure all is well. cheers!

IPA in 2ndry - continued fermentation or off gassing??

Hey homebrewers- I brewed this extraxt IPA on 5/16 and transfered to secondary on 5/31 after a couple SG readings at 1.024 (OG 1.076): https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f69/ipa-extract-50715/ I used Wyeast American Ale II but followed the recipe on all other points (well, except, I don't...

    Vacuum Sealers for hops?

I completely agree on Foodsaver vacuum sealer for larger quantitiess. But I really dig using the Reynolds Handi-vac sealer for smaller qty's (3-4 ounces or less). Check it out as an alternate option and it's inexpensive Amazon.com: Reynolds Consumer Produ Handi Vac Starter Kit 00590: Home &...

Homebrew homies - (sorry in advance for the long thread) This by no means is meant to be a complaint thread but more of a sanity check. I got into homebrewing because I really enjoy drinking beer, wanted to make my own through experimentation, share with friends/family and because I am...
