Funny things you've overheard about beer

If you're at los cabos (baja california) ask around for ramuri beer. They make a very decent imperial stout & imperial oatmeal stout (head retention sucks but their beer is tasty) there's tons of mexican craft breweries up north so i really don't understand some of the folks who just said...

    differences in brewing costs

i pay from $50 to $90 per 5.5G batch, this is buying mostly in bulk. Welcome to both the mexican industry of no-LHBS & the economy!

    Lagunitas Doppel Weizen

50% white or red malted wheat 3% carahell/crystal 10L 47% pilsner malt I do a 6.5lb white wheat + 4.25lb pilsner malt hefe that rounds up to 6.0% abv. My best guesstimate for 5G is: 8lb white wheat 7.75lb pilsner malt .25lb carahell

Funny things you've overheard about beer

a way walks into my local watering hole and ask for the strongest flavored beer, he's promptly offered a mikkeller's cognac aged black hole and he decides to drink it. Takes a couple of licks and says how awesome it is, reads the label, sees coffee on it and says how he can't drink beers that...

Why are head and head retention desirable?

to the best of my knowledge, helps to prevent oxidation as the foam keeps oxygen at bay

Nice article on how AB InBev is trying to destroy good beer for higher profits

you think they don't know? they do, they just don't care in the name of profits. As long as it makes'em money, they won't change a thing

Drinking beer with lots of hops and drug test, any concern?

i've done it quite a few times. No drug testing in my country/job and i've never even tasted pot for that matter. some of the varities do smell remarkably like burning pot (didn't say i knew what it smells like, just never done it) when lit up, specially saaz. you can mix leaf hops or pellets...

    I forgot about it

according to a fermentis rep in latinamerica, yeast is done after 100 or so hours from the start of fermentation. Does not mean there's anything wrong with letting age but i can definitely see why some brewers bottle fast. the best hefe i've ever had (and made by me even!) went from grain to...
