    First batch

It can take some time. Did you use irish moss or anything else to help it clear? After you bottle, chilling for at least one week will also help it clear up. Finally, some styles (witbier for exampe) are supposed to be cloudy. I'm not knowledgeable enough about BJCP style guidelines, but...

    First brew plan... Critique

Trying to cool 5 gallons from boil to pitching temp with an ice bath and snow bank is going to take forever. You may want to consider doing a partial boil (2 or 3 gallons) and then topping off with cold water. That will speed up your process. Otherwise, seems fine. Best of luck!

Temperature Control in Ferm Chamber - Heating pad on a timer?

Agreed. Check out the ebay 2-stage controller. Then build a paint can heater (light bulb inside paint can) and you are all set. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/ebay-aquarium-temp-controller-build-163849/

Convert Old FULL SIZE Refrigerator for Lagering / Fermenting

Yep, set the fridge to as cold as it goes and then use the ebay controller to control the temp. The controller will remove power from the fridge when it hits the desired temp. It will reapply power when the temp falls outside the variance that you set on the controller.

Convert Old FULL SIZE Refrigerator for Lagering / Fermenting

It can be quite easy if you want it to be. Get an ebay aquarium controller (see this thread). Wire it up, plug your fridge into the cooling outlet, put the temp. sensor in the fridge and set your temp. I wired mine in a radio shack project box which sits outside the fridge. I'm lagering at...

    Blue Moon Clone

I attempted my first BIAB with Nilo's #7 a few weeks ago. My only deviation from the recipe was the use of Nottingham because my LHBS was out of S-04. I got 68% efficiency. It got a little hot during the mash (gotta really stir), so I hope it turns out well. I'm planning to bottle this weekend...

    Water question

+1 It'll be fine. I always use tap water to top-off my extract brews. However, I'm on a well. I don't know if city water (with chlorine) would have an effect.

New brewer in state college, pa looking for equipment

I noticed this starter kit on Craigslist the other day: http://williamsport.craigslist.org/hsh/3300655315.html It looks like a pretty good setup for a good price. Lewisburg is about 1 hour 10 minutes from State College. If he comes in Rt. 45, he'll also pass Bald Eagle Brewing Company which...

    Chest Freezer Temperature Controller Question..

While I don't have an external temperature controller, from what I've read on these forums, it seems to be working properly. The Johnson controller overrides the power to the freezer. Basically, when the temperature hits "roughly" 38F (where you have it set), it removes power to the freezer...

Does anyone have a recipie for Moxie??

Moxie is available in PA. In fact, it's bottled by the Catawissa Bottling Company. They will ship the plastic bottles. Here's their "unsophisticated" website: http://catawissabottlingco.com/. I've found it in small grocery stores in the area - none of the big chain stores.
