    Thanks for the help!

    Hops in an amber

They were picked fresh and frozen within a few hours. Maybe throw in 1/3 a pound in at 10 minutes and 2/3 a pound at flameout?

    Hops in an amber

I'm thinking of making an amber ale with some hops I picked from a friend's house and put in the freezer. The only problem is that I have no idea what kind of hops they are. I'm thinking of using a known hop for bittering and throwing about a half pound of these hops in at flameout and then...

    Top 10 Best Beer Cities

Denver should be on the list. Lots of great breweries in and around downtown and Dry Dock Brewing is just a few miles away. Not to mention GABF is here every year.

Need good info on biab types/sizes

A voile curtain is cheap and works well. I didn't sew it but just use binder clips to hold it in place on my kettle. I also fold it in half to get double the filtering.

    BIAB Water Displacement by Grain

I like to dunk sparge into two gallons of water for 10 minutes. I've got a 7.5 gallon kettle, and have done a 12 pound mash using this technique. My efficiencies have been in the 75-80% range. This isn't the true BIAB technique, but I've found it works well for me.

    BIAB with multiple bags

I would imagine using a few smaller bags would result in an efficiency loss since the grain won't be in contact with all of the water, and it might not be much fun trying to fish out several bags and drain all at once. I bought a pre made bag from Austin Homebrew, but it didn't fit around the...

What's wrong with a false bottom for BIAB

I just use a stainless steel vegetable steamer for mashing. It doesn't cover the entire bottom of my pot, but I make sure the direct flame is low so i'm not directly heating the edges of the kettle with a flame when I need to heat up a few degrees to adjust temp or mash out. I haven't had any...

    Planning to try BIAB...need illumination

For the bag I use a voile curtain. I bought a sewn bag from Austin Homebrew Supply for $7, but it didn't fit around the lip of my kettle very well and it wasn't fine enough to filter as well as I would like. The curtain works really well with some binder clips to hold it in place.

    First All Grain

1.064 instead of 1.063. Now we'll see how fermentation goes. Pitched a 1L starter.

    First All Grain

Just brewed my first AG today using BIAB. I missed my gravity by 1 point which is way better than I could have expected. It's going to be a holiday beer. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone in here for all the great tips!

Botched a Belgian Dubbel, should I add fruit?

I pulled a gallon off of a dubbel I brewed about three weeks ago and racked it on top of 1.5 pounds of frozen raspberries to keep SWMBO happy. I have no idea how it will taste, but it smells great.
