    New Kegs now what

So I have gotten myself 2 new kegs (new to me). What are some things I need to look for (wear and tear sort of thing) and what are some general maintenance things I should do (I know I need to de-gunk them but sterilze etc). For you keggers out there what are some good practice points I...

    Soda Kegs

I called my local pepsi bottler again - Got ahold of a nice guy who said we'd be able to get some kegs on Monday. Lets see whats going. I'm fairly excited -- The guys at Pepsi are so much nicer than the coke guys were....I guess thats the reason I prefer pepsi over coke :)

    Soda Kegs

Thanks for this. I've thought of using a service in SweetGrass Mt called At The Border Storage. For about 5$ a week they will accept delivery of your packages for you. I was really hoping to find something locally as well. I am headed to Great Falls MT at the end of March and am going to...

    Soda Kegs

do you know if these places would ship, at a reasonable price, to Canada? That seems to be my biggest hurdle right now. I will be headed to Great falls montana at the end of the month maybe I'll see if there is a LHBS there that might have them.........

    Soda Kegs

Sorry if this has been asked and answered but my forum google-fu is a little weak....... I'm looking for a source on Soda Kegs, for forced carbination, in western Canada or Southern Alberta. I've found a few on E-bay but they are well over 100$ for reconditioned kegs. There are also a few more...

    New Batch From Extract

Success...:mug: :mug: This time around I achieved the high sugar content I was looking for (sweetness) with the earthy rootbeer essence and a very mild yeast taste..... I am quite happy with this. Now to take this recipe and drink it all gone - buy the carny and cO2 and get to work with...

How long to carbonate with yeast?

Sorry to bump an older thread.... I've just started making root beer myself and have found the similar as you did. My bottles were quite firm after a few days but the soda inside came up a little bit flat. From what I understand it has alot to do with temperature or more importantly stable...

    Hello From Alberta Canada

Thanks Boo Boo -- for right now only root beer. I don't drink so sticking to sparkling juice and sodas is about as adventurous as I'm going to get. Though with my experiences so far I've recommended home brewing to a few friends who seem fairly interested. King!

    New Batch From Extract

I pitched a new batch of root beer tonite from Royal Extracts. Varied it up a little bit with 15L of water to 4.4lbs of sugar (plus or minus as I had my 6 year old helping me with that one). Used 1.5 times the amount of extract and got that nice root beer flavor hit. I also used water that...

New Root Beer Batch -- YEASTY

So i figured out my issue and its a bit of a DERP on my side.....apparently the U.S has 2 different gallon measurements (3.84 and something else). I used the something else which caused my root beer to be flat (watered down) and lacking the root beer taste and not really carbing that well with...

New Root Beer Batch -- YEASTY

Thanks for this!! I may have used a bit more than I think (yeast). I will be playing a little bit with my next batch. Champagne yeast is a definite yes for the next batch. Some other Ideas i'm playing with are: use 1.5 times as much root beer flavoring (syrup) use 4lbs white sugare use...

New Root Beer Batch -- YEASTY

Thanks - I do not mind the yeasty flavor but this stuff tastes almost like drinking soda that has had bread dough soaking in it.......I think i will try again but the next batch is going to use a champagne yeast. From what I've read champagne yeast yields quite a bit less to the yeast flavor...

New Root Beer Batch -- YEASTY

Well just over a week later and my bottles are quite firm -- as in I wouldnt like to leave them out for much longer. I chilled a bottle down in the freezer (2 hours) then in the fridge for 2 days......It was still very yeasty but also very carbonated. There appears to be no head and very...

New Root Beer Batch -- YEASTY

Thanks for the reply. So you think I should be okay if I put them into a warmer place for a little while? Perhaps the basement was just a little too chilly for the yeast?

New Root Beer Batch -- YEASTY

Greetings, This is my first post here - I've been perusing for a while and have found lots of wonderful information and helpfulness. I'm hoping someone might be able to give me a hand. I made a batch of rootbeer on Saturday morning (23gal / 5L) using 4.4LBS sugar, water, malto dextrin...
