    Kegging newbie splitter question

I put labels from my label maker on the splitter, and corresponding wraparound labels right on the end of the gas line. That way no matter how much beer I've had, it's quick and easy to see which line I'm turning on and off.

    You still buy Beer

+1 I only drink non-homebrew about once a month with buddies. Three or four of us split a while bunch of 650ml bottles, that way we can sample a lot at once and figure out what to brew. Other than that, I have to be at a pub to drink anything else.

    HBT collective wisdom

When your adjusting your brewing techniques, only change one thing per brew and keep everything else consistent. That way you will know how the change effects the final product.

    HBT collective wisdom

+ Google = Knowledge Don't ask don't tell was just repealed in the military, not on HBT when it comes to SWMBO. ;)

    HBT collective wisdom

Post a quick tidbit on what's made brewing easier/your beer better. Don't start an argument with your comment, this thread is just to condense the wisdom of HBT in one place! I'll start. Don't depend on airlock activity to know if fermentation is active/finished, use a hydrometer!

Don't add salt next time ;) I actually have no clue. I've never made cider, my only thought is the water used...

GFCI Spa Panel (Hate making a new thread but...)

Typically a spa panel is good for those who have an old panel and a gfci breaker is out of this world expensive. In my mind, a spa panel is the most flexible way to go long term. When I hook up hot tubs its generated cheaper to buy a spa panel and a breaker than buy a gfci breaker. You can...

    Homebrewtalk.com "personalities"

Cheezy demon is a late 20s small nerd with a slight hunchback, bad acne, and big glasses who, when he isn't brewing, sits in front of his computer posting on the seven different forums he's addicted to while doing quests in some mmorg. In his mom's basement. Surrounded by carboys. And giant...

Still plagued by "THT"... "The Homebrew Taste"

Try a few things mentioned on your next brew and let us know how it goes. We can troubleshoot all day but won't know until it's tested! Good luck!

Still plagued by "THT"... "The Homebrew Taste"

Hmm, maybe oxidation? Do you take care not to splash the wort around when it's hot, or after fermentation? Also, what are the conditions your keeping the bottles in? Are you leaving as little head space as possible when bottling? This may be a stupid question, but how about pouring? Do you...

    The Official Disappointment Thread

How true it is. I've learned far more from the screwed up batches than the ones that work.

    Spa Panel vs GFI Breaker?

At that point price is your biggest factor. Is a gfci breaker or a spa panel cheaper? The op didn't have room for a new breaker, so a spa panel would most likely be easier. But if you have a new panel (thus usually cheaper breakers) and room in it, it all comes down to price between the two options.

    Spa Panel vs GFI Breaker?

And then it often depends on the separate inspectors and their interpretations of each code. It kind of sucks sometimes.

    Spa Panel vs GFI Breaker?

Ya, where I am (Canada) #10 is rated for 30A, but thats probably different in the states. You'd have to check with someone local. There's often special situations and exceptions which that you may fall under, so check with someone who knows the code.
  15. R

    Spa Panel vs GFI Breaker?

Ya, but spas and hot tubs are always (or should be) on a GFCI, so the motors used in them won't trip anything. That's not a requirement for a dryer. If you have a relatively new dryer, I would bet your ok. But I wouldn't want to take the chance. As for extra work, if your using your dryer plug...

    Spa Panel vs GFI Breaker?

You don't have to feed the spa panel with #6 as long as the upstream breaker is sized correctly. In my area #10 is good for 30A, so you could tap off your dryer circuit with #10, and feed the spa panel with that. Even if the 50A spa breaker is oversized, the gfci function will still work fine...
  17. R

    Spa Panel vs GFI Breaker?

GFCIs sometimes don't like motors, especially older ones. There can be currant leakage that doesn't affect anything as far as function is concerned, but a GFCI could pick up.

The [very cool] doctor who thread

I agree, that would be awesome, however, that would mean the doctor would have to enter his own time line. I'd love to see the plot device that would allow that! It would have to be a two parter.

    The Official Disappointment Thread

Maybe you should clean up the crap all over your house and keep it in the toilet, might reduce the chances of infection... ;) Really though, that sucks, been there. Mine would be a lime lager I made for the summer, made an awesome lager, super crisp and clean, no off flavors I could pick up...
