    Pellet hops in pickup tube

I have a 1/2 pickup tube, 1/2 ball valve going into a 1/2 id hose barb. I was hoping the hop pellet muck would flow through and straight into the carboy. I dont reuse my yeast and have read others say its not a big deal to leave the hops in the primary.

    Pellet hops in pickup tube

Do you drain from a valve in your brew kettle?

    Pellet hops in pickup tube

I have a three tier gravity brew stand. My boil kettle has a false bottom with a pickup tube. I have always used leaf hops but my LHBS for the most part sells pellets. Question is, can I use pellet hops and drain from my boil kettle to carboy as I usually do, or will the pellets clog the pickup...

adding ball valve to my 7.5 gal pot

I did this with mine and it works perfect. I also cut a piece of scrap aluminum and bolted it to my burner to deflect direct flame contact. I am very happy with the results.

Raptor rye is a cool name. This recipe looks good. I like the hop rod rye and sierra nevada rye beers. I might try this if you like it.

    LHBS prices vs buying online

True...I found the closest shop to me(the good brewer in livermore) using a google search.

    LHBS prices vs buying online

Support local home brew shops. It was a bummer to see our LHBS close years ago. Now I drive an hour to get supplies. I know i pay more, but its worth it to support the community. Its also frustrating that most of my brew equipment says MADE IN CHINA on it.

    Aluminum brew kettle

Aluminum is ok to use. You should boil water in the kettle for an hour to build a passive layer before brewing. Stainless is more corrosion resistent to chemicals, but aluminum conducts heat better. I would say buy what you can afford and try to get a 10 gallon pot if you can.

    What are you drinking now?

Affligem Dubbel. I just had a nice ribeye and washed it down with this. Malty and easy to drink. A nice change from all the IPAs i have had lately.

    Tomato beer

I grew up watching my Grandfather drink beer with tomato juice and salt. One day i tried it for kicks and nearly puked.

Can I brew all grain with this

If you Can pick up a couple of propane burners you could easily build a 3-tier system with what you have. I love mine and brew day is super easy.

    Beefing up OG

By mashing more grain, your OG will go up. If you want to enhance the body, you can also add a half pound of carapils malt. If you still want more ABV throw in a pound of honey.

Having trouble getting my gravity up

How much did you drain from your first runnings and how much sparge water did you use? What was you grain to water ratio?

why would they remove my review?

Nice video! So when its done, do you bottle or keg? I have never done one gallon batches before.

Does brewing cause you to drink more beer?

I dont drink more, but I do enjoy what im drinking more. I like the feedback from others so I give a lot away.

    Super Low OG

I wait Until primary fermentation calms down (about 3-4 days). 1.5 lbs in a 5 gal batch should be about 10 points.

    Super Low OG

You can add a pound of honey to your primary fermenter if you are just looking to boost ABV. 2 cups water to a pound of honey, bring up to 160 degrees, cool to fermentation temp and pour it into primary.

    It's alive! and Leeching

I am in the same boat. I am not going to worry about the batch I just made. I may upgrade for the next brew, but I really doubt you will notice a vinyl taste. they may have a point with the chemicals. Probably give most of this batch to friends to be safe...lol
