Give me a reason to not taste my beer yet!

I say try one so you can see how much it changes over the weeks ahead. I tried mine that was only a week old last night....dumped it. It did help take the edge off of waiting though.

Seriously the easiest DIY ever for bottling bucket dip tube

Great idea! I don't know why I did'nt think of this. Its basically what I use in my hot liqour tank and boil kettle(copper instead of pvc). I just picked up a new bottling bucket from morebeer, and they drill the valve hole 3 inches from the bottom. This is a great fix for that! Thanks

Time to start developing our own brews!

Jayhem, I do the exact same thing. It has really helped me learn what grains I like, and others i don't care for as much(black patent).

    Made my first beer today!

I was trying to make a balanced, high abv beer thats easy to drink. Have you used beer calculus or any other programs?

    Made my first beer today!

I love amber ales. I just did Yoopers house pale ale and its almost ready to bottle. I also made a honey amber ale from a recipe I made up on beer calculus. If it turns out well I might post it.

Thought this was a bit amusing

The tub is a great idea. It looks like a starsan volcano.

    Made my first beer today!

Your first brew is a big deal! Good job. It sounds like you are in good shape if its bubbling already. The question is, what are you going to brew next?

    Don't do what I did.

As for the medicinal taste, are you treating your water for chlorine/chloromine?
  12. Stocktonbrew

    Don't do what I did.

I have never noticed off flavors from the pvc tubing. That said, I just switched over to all silicone. It is expensive but easy to use( does'nt coil up) and no worries about chemicals.

Does my hop sack look normal?

So funny I sprayed coffee all over my keyboard.

Who is using thsi 50qt cooler?

My cooler also has the channel drain and it works like a champ with my manifold. It drains well without having to lift one end of the cooler up.

Who is using thsi 50qt cooler?

I don't have that exact cooler, but I say go for it. Its a good price and the wheels would be great for rolling over to the garbage can to dump the grains. You can't go wrong for 30 bucks.

    Aluminium sparge kettle issues?

No issues from the aluminum. I used bargain fittings to build mine. I added a site glass, valve, and thermometer. It was cheap and makes for a good hot water tank.

Returning to brewing after a few years

Having two burners makes it a lot easier. Like yourself, I was not brewing for a while, but now I have a brew stand and enjoy not lifting hot wort.

    Preventing boil-overs

I came close with a big porter yesterday. My rear puckered a little. I reduced heat and was blowing like mad. Luckily no boil over.

    Piss poor crush from Midwest

You could get a better crush with a rolling pin!

    Homemade wort chiller

I went with 50 feet of 3/8. The price of copper has gone crazy. I think it cost about 70 bucks. It cools the wert in about 15 minutes. I clamped pvc tubing over the inlet/outlet of the copper and it drips if I turn the water to high. I would recomend soldering hose fittings to avoid this problem.
