Agree. I see mostly IPAs when I go to bev mo. I just brewed a full sail amber ale type clone. Malty and well balanced on the hops with 5.4%ABV. I like the balance.
I think its cool your swmbo helped her dad brew beer as a kid. I have a 13 year old son who hates to clean the house, but will spend all day brewing in the back yard with me.
The MLT looks good. I dont know what other equipment you have, but i made a cheap 3-tier gravity stand out of 2 by 4s and ply wood and it made the whole process super easy. Good luck on your first run.
this seems like a nice alternative to a hundred dollar Copper coil. It would also use less water than an immersion chiller...sucks I just finished Building my immersion chiller a few hours ago. I like this idea.
I just finished building mine. Yours looks pretty much the same. Just make sure the valve on your boil kettle is high enough to drain into your fermenter.
