    Prohibition homebrewing notebook.

I think I see an oz behind the 6 in the picture.

    grade yourself and be honest

I have only been all-grain a short period of time (yearish). I would rate myself typically as a C/C- brewer so far. I have two beers that I have refined to the point of being consistently excellent and tasting the same batch to batch. One of my friends that has tried both is a BJCP judge and...

If you are pressed for time, why do you homebrew?

Or he has friends like mine... :drunk:

Buddy coming back from ft collins/ Denver area, what beers?

You can find Crooked Stave at a few liquor stores. I think they have a list on their website. In Ft Collins I have bought some of their beers from Wilber's and 287 Discount. They usually don't have much though. Maybe someone from Denver can give you an idea of where they might be available there.

Buddy coming back from ft collins/ Denver area, what beers?

Funkwerks Saison is great and can be found in most front range places. Their more unusual/experimental stuff is mostly sold in the taproom, but they usually have some bottled. Hoppy Man/Boy IPAs from Twisted Pine in Boulder are solid and not from one of the major Colorado brands (not sure they...

If you are pressed for time, why do you homebrew?

Personally, I have yet to see a difference between decoction and my single infusion (with mash out) or 2 step infusion mash. I have tried the same recipes and the difference just really isn't there. I get slightly better efficiency, but at the expense of my time. The malts used in homebrewing...

What is the most unique beer you've made so far?

Mine was nothing too crazy... I tried making a cinnamon roll inspired beer with some spices, homemade cinnamon rolls, and what I thought would be a decent grain bill for the recipe... I quickly found out that I am slightly allergic to cinnamon and couldn't get through a whole glass without some...

    Brewers in Cheyenne, WY?

I'm a Cheyenne brewer and have only been to Depot Street Merchants a handful of times since I started brewing (only small things). They are just never open when I need them to be. I mainly use Hops and Berries and the internet. I'm typically in Ft Collins every couple weekends anyway, so it is...

    First Attempt: Black IPA/CDA

I will check that out. I am using Beersmith right now and have found it useful so far.

    First Attempt: Black IPA/CDA

Sorry I thought I put it in there Crystal 120L. Part of the reason I wanted to do this was to play with the Chocolate Wheat in this style beer, so I want that to stay... but I am not tied to anything else. This is why I wanted to solicit help on this. I knew that something would be off from...

    First Attempt: Black IPA/CDA

This is my first attempt at creating a recipe. I searched around, got some ideas, and put this together. I now have a couple all grain batches under my belt, including a wheat and all have been right at the expected starting gravity or slightly higher (my efficiency batch sparging has been...

    First Time Brewer Questions

That was the 3rd time I had opened the fermenter over the 2.5 weeks it has been fermenting. Hopefully that isn't too much. I have my second batch starting to ferment and I don't plan on opening that for at least 3 weeks. I didn't return the sample, I let some chill in the fridge and it seemed...

    First Time Brewer Questions

Took another gravity reading today and got 1.012. There are a few bubbles on top still (see picture) excuse me for being new at this, but are those normal? My palette is still getting used to flat, warm beer so I can't say that it tastes weird. It might be a tad sour, but nothing that jumps...

Thanks for all the replies. I'll just leave it alone for 3ish more weeks and keep it simple.

    First Time Brewer Questions

I brewed my first batch on the 22nd of July. It was just a simple ESB extract kit from Midwest. I did a full boil (or somewhat close to it as I ended up with a tad under 5 gallons) and a yeast starter. Before pitching the yeast the SG was at 1.050. The recipe calls for 1.042-1.046, I assume mine...
