Bottling directly from the fermenter (Fear of Oxidation by Iron Maiden)

I use the SS lid of my fermenter ( KL Bucket Buddy ) and just clamp it down without the rubber seal. I used to use cling wrap and an O ring on my old plastic fermenters. At one point for British ales i used a rectangle storage tub with no lid at all after the first 24hrs. Hoping for more...

Bottling directly from the fermenter (Fear of Oxidation by Iron Maiden)

I keg 99% of my beers now, but the ones i bottle, i do from the fermenter, and dose each bottle. I don't do it often, so it's no big deal. It's worked fine the last 20 years, so i don't see a reason to modify. I don't use an airlock either, ever. Kill me now i guess haha

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Verano Claro. My light alcohol lager last year was surprisingly really good for 2.6%, i really liked it. I use very little crystal malt, i just generally prefer none, but the caramalt works really well. I will definately try it in bigger beers ( at a much smaller percentage though ) . Getting...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

That sucks!. Are you guys like us ( Oz ) in that the govt is hoping on the energy fairies to provide eletrical power, rather than the ridiculously abundant current energy source that's already readily available?

    What are you drinking now?

No worries!, i grabbed the last 4 pack at my local Dan's. No beer in July and none in August but i will definately crack one of these on the 1st of Sept haha

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I havent brewed many black IPA's but i have made a few hoppy amber and hoppy dark ales. More dark and hoppy than a full IPA style but dark. Really like them. I like Sinimar ( for colour ), or Midnight wheat, added late in the mash ( though i add dark malts late in the mash in all my dark beers...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

On a related note, when i started, US05 was kind of it. I used it with no issues. Then i went to other yeast. I tried US05 a few years ago after a few years away from brewing. It would have been at least a decade since id used it. Peach bomb, i did not like it at all, and don't remember ever...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

No, i love how it rips through in an instant, but i get the tartness some people find with it. I used both S04 and nottingham for a while before using White labs and wyeast strains. There were definately beers with Notto and S04 i enjoyed, but once i tried the liquid strains i never went back...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Will do. I tried windsor recently, i thought it was ok, but im in no rush to use it again. Bit worried about S33. Some mixed reviews, and i really like Verdant. I'll use it for something i guess.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I agree, except for Verdant. I really like it, but the rest, i find not as good as the liquid strains. Just lacking character in comparison for my taste

Can you get used/accustomed to smoked beer?

I played around with peated distillers malt in a few dark beers for a while. Really added a very pleasant "open grave" character. I liked it, but its a distinct flavour.

    Inexpensive Cold Lager Fermentation

Ive used old fridges i've gotten for free,or close to it with an STC1000 for 20yrs. Every few years they die ( current one is hanging on, can ferment at 15c in summer lol ), but i just look around til i find one. I would like to just get a base model kegerator, to use as a fermenting chamber...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

When i saw a dry mex lager yeast i was interested. Sold out here. Also, the pitching rate means it's cheaper for me to culture 940, so not sure ill try the Baja, unless its awesome.

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

I had the same thought when i tried it, i really like it, and wondered why the negative reviews. I like it over S189. Well, for clean lagers i use S189 and for euro lagers i use S23. I use liquid strains as well but dry is just so good now. It's a commercially available brewing yeast, so...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I haven't brewed over 4% for a while and couldnt remember what i set my efficiency at. I was worried i'd under shoot, so while i was waiting for the pre boil sample to cool, i added 300g of sugar. Then, when the Pre boil cooled, it was 1.047. The 2nd pre boil sample, with the sugar added, was...
