My $15 solution to putting a keggle on top of my SP10

Check his link. He's has pictures there. It looks like a good idea. BassBeer, I like your idea of the slotted steel. It's probably less expensive and easier to work with. Off to Lowes!

Doing it right from the start

I would do whatever I could to brew beer TODAY!

Hey all! I haven't been around much lately and am finally back! Since the last time I posted, carbidetoolguy and myself were talkin about getting sponsorship or help from other clubs and possibly starting a satellite club in this area. Palmetto State Brewers in Columbia said they wouldn't...

Can You Brew It recipe for Deschutes Obsidian Stout

Wow, it's been 3 weeks on the gas and I just tried it. Wow! It's really good! A little drier than I thought it would be but not too dry. It finished at about 7.1 ABV. I've never had the real thing so I don't have anything to compare to. The roastiness is great, and the color is BLACK! The...

    Hop spider

Here's mine. This is a ring from a sink disposal I got at Lowes. I got the SS bolts and nuts at Fastenal. Total for all SS, about $15.

    My Finished Stir Plate

Does that jug have a flat bottom? If so, what stir bar are you using?

Weldless keggle hole size issue (possible)

I did two kegs with the 1/2" punch and have had no problems. The seals are perfectly fine. If you already have the 1/2" punch you would just be wasting your money. Buy something brew-worthy!

First Time Brewing: Fermentation Question (Picture Inside)

+1 on DO NOT move to secondary yet! Just let it sit a couple of weeks and the yeast will do their job. I let all of mine sit for at least 3 weeks but I like to go 28 days, normally. I then drop the temperature to about 38 for a few days and rack straight to keg (or bottle). My beers have...

    Refractometer recommendations?

Check out brewhardware.com. It's BobbyM's site and he's a member here. Everything he sells is top notch. He's close to you also in Jersey. He has a nice refractometer. It's the one I'm going to get also.

MC, Thanks for the response! That's a great suggestion. I didn't even consider you guys since you were farther away. I think that might even be a better idea, keep it in SC! Who would be the person to contact for that? It looks like we may have 4-5 maybe to start with at least. It would be...

    Fermentation stuck-more yeast?

+1 on pitching more yeast, but you only need about a pint starter. Since your not trying to grow yeast just get the yeast active and pitch. They should gobble up whatever is left.

Can You Brew It recipe for Deschutes Obsidian Stout

Yea, it just kinda leaves you hanging! The White Labs website says that the optimal fermentation temperature range for 002 is 65 to 68 degrees. So I just ramped it up through that range. Not that I'm pretty sure I've hit terminal gravity I wanted to let it go up to70-72 for a week or two for...

Can You Brew It recipe for Deschutes Obsidian Stout

Here's an update on the brew. WLP002 is a silent MONSTER! I made a 2 liter starter, decanted and pitched Wednesday afternoon. By the next morning (Thursday) it was going pretty good. By the time I got home Thursday evening there was almost zero activity. Friday it had slowed even more. I...
