    Two different hydrometer readings?

So I fill up my wine thief enough so that the hydrometer is free-floating, and it gives me a reading of 1.010. If I put a couple more inches of beer into the wine thief, it gives me a reading of 1.004. I THINK the 1.004 reading is correct actually. It was at 1.010 a while ago, and I...

    Pickled Beer

What about adding pickling spices (http://whatscookingamerica.net/Q-A/PicklingSpice.htm) at the last 10 minutes or so of the boil, and then adding pre-boiled pickle juice individually to each bottle / the keg (havent decided what to do with it). Will enough fermentation take place after it's...

    Pickled Beer

I'm going to put it with a really simple, light ale, along with jalapenos for some of the batch. Haha, maybe i'll make some of it Garlic Jalapeno Chili Pepper Beer, that's enough to tear anyone up. But seriously garlic is an interesting idea. Has this been done much before?

Starsan as good as PBW by Five Star?

Was curious and googled, it came upon this, from these forums, so I thought I'd post it: Either cleaner will work fine on a plastic bucket. I've used both. I prefer oxyclean, just for it's soaking capabilities. That stuff takes everything off, love it. Make sure it's oxyclean FREE though.

    Pickled Beer

Gonna make one for our SHV month at my local brewers league. I'm deciding between dill weed, actual pickles, or pickle juice. There's nothing in pickle juice that can ferment is there? I can't put dill weed in the actual wort, because I'm splitting it up into 3 batches (a jalapeno beer...

Just smell it. If it smells like wort, don't use it. If it smells like beer, use it.

Why so much banana in my Saison?

I know what you mean, my bubbling (i know it's not a proper indicator) went for about 10 days, finally it slowed, and it was about 1.015, xferred to secondary and it started another slower fermentation that lasted about another 10 days, and dropped it down to 1.008

Why so much banana in my Saison?

Why so much banana in my Saison?

So I brewed the New Belgium Farmhouse Style Saison from BYO's 150 clones a few weeks ago, moved it to the keg, and everything tastes fine apart from the very heavy banana flavors coming through. I used 3724 for my yeast, and fermented at about 85 degrees. I thought that yeast was designed to...

nah, you should be fine. just make sure to hit your carbonation level as close as you can. but even with that i'm sure there's lenience.

    quick all grain question.

Ahhh, I understand now. Yeah, I'm thinking with all of the other precautions I'm taking with this beer, this small thing shouldn't be too big of a deal.
