about to try first brew, question about carbing and refrigeration...

Ok, when I get home from work in a couple of hours after working all night, I'll put one of the beers in the refrigerator. When my fiancee gets home from work (I'll have been awake for a couple of hours by then), I'll pull the beer out for 10 minutes before we try it. Thanks guys.

BrewMasters Warehouse (now, rising from the ashes!)

I live right down the street from BMW, and they happen to be next door to my favorite pizza place! My fiancée and I took their brewing class there, and the staff was great. They seemed to have been cleaned out over the Christmas holiday and were getting their stock back on the shelves. I was...

about to try first brew, question about carbing and refrigeration...

My fiancée and I brewed our first batch of beer a couple weeks ago, and bottled it with a priming sugar. It will have been carbonating for 2 weeks as of Feb. 4th. We are going to refrigerate a bottle today to try tonight to see if we can serve it at our supper bowl party. When is too soon to...

    carbing temps...

We are consistently at 68 degrees, shut the door on the room and put a towel under the door, and the temp went up to 78ish. Is it OK to have temp fluctuations and how much of a temp range is OK?

    plans for bottling... (first timers)

Well, we bottled or first brew. It went relatively easy, but took a relatively long time. About 3.5 hours, with all of the prep and cleaning all of the equipment at the end. The carboy yielded 45 bottles of beer, which are now sitting in a bathtub with a towel over them to block out light...

    plans for bottling... (first timers)

OK, less bleach sounds good. The bottles have been in the garage for the past week in an open box, so I'm thinking it'd be good to clean 'em. We are hoping to have drinkable beer in time for our big Superbowl party on the 5th, if possible. A buddy of mine who as been bottling for the past...

    plans for bottling... (first timers)

Hopefully tomorrow, we will be bottling our beer! I just wanted to check to make sure we planned this out right. First, we are going to sterilize our new beer bottles with a mix of bleach water. Is 50/50 OK? Then rinse them in star-San with the bottle caps. Then we will pump some bleach...

    Took a FG reading today...

just a couple more pics and a quick vid of the airlock activity... tempurature has fallen if you peer into the bung hole, the foam is totally fallen and there is just some foam and junk on the surface of the beer. and a quick 40 sec vid of airlock activity: VIDEO1373.mp4 - YouTube...

    Took a FG reading today...

aight guys, total newb-ness here again. we've just taken the second hydrometer reading on day 8 of brewing our fast fermentating beer recipe. Just wondering if we are seeing a consistant enough FG to procede with bottling. There is still airlock activity; its just a steady stream of small...

    Dear God!

Hahaha I told my fiancèe, "Forget having children, we're raising beer!" We've asked each other, "Have you sat with the beer yet today?" And just today, we took our first FG reading, and I see that my fiancèe has been straightening up our brewing space, maintaining the carboy tempurature, and...

    Took a FG reading today...

Yep, we calibrated the hydrometer and it read correctly. What can cause the high OG and FG? I take it there was something during the prep for fermentation that may have caused the higher OG/FG. I am wondering... We actually used 3.5 lbs of powdered extract and half a container of liquid...

    Just finished our first brew!

OK, just got home from work. Stacey hooked up a blow off tube into a bucket of star-san, and all looks good there. I can still hear some bubbling noises, so I'm assuming that means the yeast is still doing its thing. The stick on tempurature sticker is still showing the car boy around 70 to 72...

    Just finished our first brew!

No, didn't boil the tap water... the local brew supplier doesn't and says use the water like you drink it around our area. Might boil next time though to just remove that reason for something to go wrong. Everything else seems good maybe. A lot of yeast activity it looks like, with all of...
