    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

During Fall, Winter and Spring, I usually put my 2 gallon fermenter in an ice chest with some water. It was easy for me to regulate the temperature. As we now move into the summer months, I am having problem with controlling the temperature. Its fluctuates between 64 - 70 degrees. I would...

I have never bottled in that size. Never really even thought about it.

I agree with trying to keep a consistent mash temp. I tried several thing, yet I wasn't satisfied. I went with the oven trick to keep my mash temp. I then transfer my wort to the tun for vorlauf and transfer to kettle.

When you cold crash, do you have any problems with carbonating?

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I have a question about dry hopping a 1 gallon batch. I have no problem doing it with one hop except for taking the muslin bag out of the bottle when finished. Has anyone tried it with 2 or more hop additions? How do you add the additional hops assuming you are using a muslin bag?

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I just bottle a blonde ale over the weekend. When bottling, I noticed that in the process I was getting a head at the top of the clean/sanitized glass bottle. I fill the bottle all the way to the top, yet it was less than I normally get because of the head. I use a auto siphon with a bottle...

I use a 6" screen in my MLT as in the picture posted by Seahare. You should be able to pick one up at your LHBS.

    Increasing efficiency.....

Think about increasing your mash water volume (1.5qt/lb.) and mashing a little bit longer.

Shy 1 Gallon Carboy / Carbonation Tabs

I would just go with the carb drops at this time. You will probably only fill about 7 bottles. You will learn how much more wort you need to make in order to fill up to the 1 gallon mark. If you have any left over you can do what WI Wino does (we all do it) or fill it up with water and mark...

Yeah, the funnel I have looks too big, but it does the job. Just have to keep stirring. It aerates and cools (a little bit) the wort. It all depends upon how much hops were used in the batch. The lid for my bucket fermenter has a big enough hole in it to hold the funnel. Makes it easier for...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I have experienced the same thing when it comes to transferring through the funnel into the fermenter. I would get another person to hold the funnel, pour in the wort and stir like crazy when it starts to drain slowly. A good way to aerate your wort. How big is your funnel? I have a 9 inch...

I use a whirlfloc tablet. I would use 1/5 of the tablet, yet I just cut the tablet roughly in half to keep it simple. To get 1/5 you would have to crush the whole tablet which to me is defeating the purpose of the tablet.

I am curious to know if any one who brews 1-2.5 gallon batches uses a burner or stove top?

My LHBS has the mill I'm considering for about $100. I'm going to look at it before purchasing it. I am also thinking about adapting it to a smaller 2 gallon bucket since I will only milling a small amount. I currently buy grain for 3 batches of beer. Sometimes I don't get to that 3rd one...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I am thinking about getting a mill (Cereal Killer) also. Some recipes require grain that I can't get from my LHBS. Problem is that I need to buy at least a pound while my recipe requires ounces. I know I can substitute grains, but will the beer be the same. Also with the mill, I can buy the...

It depends upon at what mash temp you want to establish. I usually go for 152 because that's what my oven will hold temp at consistently. I mash for 90 minutes and stir every 20 minutes. The last 10 minutes I transfer it to a convert 2 gallon cooler that has been preheated with some hot water...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I ferment my 1 gallon batch of beer in a 2 gallon bucket. If you are talking about dry yeast, I usually spread the yeast to cover all of the wort. When done, the wort is covered in a layer of yeast. Then I just seal up the bucket and wait. I usually use up 2/3 to a whole packet depending...

I will have to check and get back to you this evening. If you bought them from Midwest Supplies, I would contact them. They maybe able to help you out. I still use them. I just have to pull apart the capsule.
