    dry hopping when to bottle

I also happen to love hops, so my "not enough hops" could be your "also usable as paint stripper"... but yes, I'll keep you updated. kvh

    dry hopping when to bottle

I think my IPA sat in secondary dryhopping for at least 2 weeks before I got around to bottling... It definitely had a hop aroma in it when we bottled. Tasting begins in another 10 days, I can get back to you then whether or not it was too long... kvh

    a cryin shame!

My step dad once told me of a truck of Miller crashing not far from his house as a younger man (I'd like to think that perhaps Miller tasted better back then). Well, because the truck tipped and all the cases fell out, whatever survived the crash wasn't going to be sold to anyone, so the...

    McMaster-Carr Rocks!

They do indeed rock. They have a warehouse on both coasts, so unless it's something outrageously large, 4 days is probably your longest lag time. My girlfriend bought 50' of 6' tall fiberglass mesh for a project, and it was at our door the next day... totally awesome. oh, and somewhere on...

Sanyo 4912 - Mounting taps on bottom of door

Is the door on the sanyo reversable like a full sized fridge? I mean, can it open left or right, just by changing the hinges? If so you could eventually mount the door from the other direction and have your taps at the top of the door instead. Just a thought. kvh.

Wormy looking thing in my brew?

It's probably a bit of mold from whatever beer was in it before. If mold forms, then dries, it's hard to get out. I rinse mine bottles out twice and put them back into the 6 pack box upside down now to prevent this problem. Pitch the bottle, look closely at the bottoms of your others, and...

    Storing Bottles

I recently had to buy some cases of empty bombers (22oz bottles) from my LHBS and I was pleasantly surprised how nice the boxes they came in were. They should easily last through about 6 batches worth of wear/tear before they give out on me... Thinking now, they probably get their boxes from...

    Water Question regarding DARK grains

Do you mean 10% specialty grains? kvh

    Water Question regarding DARK grains

We're planning on making a beer that'll be a high ABV, thick, black as possible, and hopefully very very rich (don't ask for the recipe - A. you'll all balk at it, and B. it's at home and I'm at work - I can post it later if you're really curious.). I do recall that it has both Chocolate and...

Hop plants getting eaten by bugs?

Damn, really? I planted mine about a month ago and one is *just* cracking the surface (the jumbo) and the other 2 are just doing nothing. I put some glass bowls I had over them to act as tiny green-houses (works inside, why not out?)... I hope they're not dead.... kvh

    Thinking of changing careers.

I'm currently finding this is harder than it seems (certainly harder than I expected). Maybe it's just because I'm the new guy trying to squeeze my way into what may be an already full field, but I've recently been turned down by 2 micro- and craft-breweries offering to shovel their tuns and...

    Dry yeast to carbonate lager?

are you also adding sugars? If not, the new dry yeasts wouldn't do much I think... I see no reason why you couldn't add yeast. I've read of people changing flavor profiles by adding a second yeast at conditioning... It might be a simple solution by adding a teeny tiny spoonful into each...

    Thinking of changing careers.

Also, read brewpastor's stories of opening a brewery... Nice advice from someone who's been through it all already. Not quite what you're looking into, but definitely close enough. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=11412 https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20962...

Yet another reason to start kegging

Sierra Nevada is about to switch over. Check it out: http://www.sierranevada.com/index2.asp They're claiming fresher beer. I'd like to think that as a former homebrewer, maybe his conscience got the best of him. kvh

    I thought this was funny

Are you sure that's not just dormant yeast from the testing vial or hydrometer? kvh

    Gyle and Kegging

That's one of the words I was thinking of - I was also thinking of Speice, which is on the PDF. thanks! kvh

    Gyle and Kegging

Rather than adding sugars or DME to your fermented wort before bottling (or kegging), you re-introduce a pre-measured amount of wert that you removed from your batch before fermenting. The sugars and hop-aromas are all present in it, your yeasts eat it up and carbonate, and the only thing in...

    Gyle and Kegging

I'm also curious about this - anyone have luck with gyle? Bottling or kegging? thx. kvh

    Vinyl Tubing

It'll probably be ok, at least for a while. Your LHBS should carry food-grade vinyl tubing. Barring that, look for anything that's suitable also for an automatic ice machine maybe... kvh
