    My BIG Kegerator Refurb

Thanks! I'm really ready for it to be finished. Well, it's bigger than it looks. The castors and wood trim (actually it's all fake wood grain) came original on the thing. I may eventually swap the castors out for new ones from McMaster that are red or something - totally worth the cost in...

    BYO Spunding Valve help

No, it just eliminates the need for carbonation from sugar, spiece/gyle, or forced CO2. You still need CO2 to dispense... But I ask again, what's the story with that first glass full of yeast slurry (I guess that's an easy way to harvest it though!) kvh

    BYO Spunding Valve help

Man, I love that idea. Do you have much of a problem with lots of yeast in your draft?

    Grommet for faucet shank

Is it leaking where the tailpiece meets the shank? Or do you have a elbow shank? I would think that regardless of what you're missing, an O-ring should be available to seal the leak. Home Depot should be a fine source. There are lots of random faucet (sink) gaskets and seals you can probably...

    Perlick/Vent Draft Towers

Swapping faucets out is a breeze. I just installed mine (well, 2 faucets and all 4 shanks, since I can't afford any more faucets right now) - they're super simple to install. I don't think there IS a wrong size, unless you're dealing with some weird foreign sizes or something. I just put 4 SS...

Maybe a good deal on an second regulator?

Nah, refridgerators should naturally lose moisture (and I just fixed my leaky condensation tray, so that helps). I'll probably scrub them down and put a drop of WD40 (just a *little little* bit) on each head to keep them OK.... Not worried in the least. A wire-brush attachment on a power...

Maybe a good deal on an second regulator?

Thanks! I sanded it all down, which left a soft 'brushed' steel look. I was hoping the satin finish clear spray I bought would be more consistent in its coating, but whatever. You can only see the stripes from the spray in direct sunlight. Inside it's almost unnoticable.

Maybe a good deal on an second regulator?

I've modified my regulator build. Here's the final version: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8503402@N08/663675535/ Thanks for everyone's input. kvh

    My BIG Kegerator Refurb

So it's nearly finished, but I wanted to post the project that's been taking up all of my weekend time for a month. I bought a used 1/2 barrel BeverageAir kegerator and was immediately in for more than I bargained for. I hand't paid much attention to it when I handed over the cash, and the...

How To PRessure Test An Old Keg

Lube it up and close it. Put your gas to it and let it run for a minute or so. Get some CO2 into it. Check it on the release valve to make sure it's got pressure, then put it to sleep for a day or two and check again. If it still has pressure after that long, you're probably OK. Want even...

    stir bars

Northern Brewer sells them, they're just listed not on the website... Call and order some - pick up some specialty grains or fancy yeasts or something to fill their minimum...

    Want a built in/undercounter Kegerator

I bought a used kegerator off CL, and while it was only $250, I've easily dropped another $500 into it with the tower, faucets, new lines, regulators, etc etc etc. This doesn't include the amount of time I spent cleaning the rust out of it and repainting it. I don't want to hijack this thread...

How do commercial Brewereis carbonate kegs?

I believe they have carbonation tanks, (they may not be called that) but they're large vessles they can pressurize. They then force the beer under pressure into the keg. I've seen novice fillers disconnect without turning the flow off, and foamy beer spray everywhere. I think these are the...

    Bottling from draft or kegs

A beer gun plugs into your CO2 tank which allows you to fill the bottle under pressure. As I unerstand it, they work great but are a little cumbersome. **EDIT** oops, that's a Counterpressure filler. I guess I always associated the two items as the same thing. As far as bottling off a keg...

    Another good use for Starsan

Sweet deal. Now, if I can just manage to choke down some red stripe, I'll have those stubby bottles I've been pining for. kvh

    Draft Towers/Home Bars Opinons

Air cooled is really simple. It's a matter of running a small computer fan inside the freezer which pumps (or sucks) air through hose, ending up in the tower. If you're going with the PVC method, you could quite easily build a 'pass through' tower, which look like these...

    NEED to un-stink!

Actually, that won't do much. Baking soda curing odors in the fridge is all a myth, read here: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/chem00/chem00388.htm That said, I'm pretty confident I have some in my fridge right now with just that intent. kvh

    NEED to un-stink!

Yeah, come to think of it, there is this great enzyme based cleaner you can use to clean (and de-stink) pet messes... That stuff may help. Sorry, I don't have a brand name. Bleach is probably faster, easier, and cheaper though. Get a spray bottle of the stuff (diluted) and a good mask and...

    I've acquired a 40.5 gal kettle

Moe: There it is! I bought it used from the navy. This thing can flash fry a buffalo in forty seconds. Homer: Awww -- Forty seconds? But I want it now! still funny.

    Finishing in Corny Keg

I can't back my answer with any experience, but I've heard of people skipping the seconodary on a wheat beer and go straight to keg (or bottle). At my HB meeting last week, someone came in with a wheat beer exactly 2 weeks from brew date. I think they're intended to be consumed young. That...
