.... but I want to drink my beer now!!!

Well I think different beers have a tendency to go more wild than others... Wheat, for example, tend to go nuts like that... My dunkelweizen had a straight stream of co2/krausen flowing out of it for 2 days straight.. But my blond ale, oktoberfest, and german altbier had just a mere foam on...

    Grolsch Brown vs. Green Bottles

I've done both (I have some brown Grolsch bottles from waaaay back =]), and my beer ''bottle ages'' in artifical light for about 50% of the time. I've never noticed a difference between the two.

Do I have a case of grenades on my hands??

Haha, no thanks, this stuff smelled worthy of drinking at week 3, I'll consume it carbonated or not

Hate to waste so much water chilling the wort!

I've been reading a bunch that people are starting to let their wort ''air cool''. Somehow the fear of aerobic contamination still lingers with me on that one, but aparently it hasn't been an issue...

Do I have a case of grenades on my hands??

I'm the paranoid type, but only when it comes to cars, and home brewing... So here's why I'm wondering if my bottles are gonna blow. 1. The brew is a Blond Ale. I used white labs yeast, liquid. Healthy fermentation after 24 hours. 2. Primary fermentation for over 3 weeks at 66-70*F...

    Sanitizing glass bottles... With mold.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I appreciate it! Lots of good ideas here... I'll definitely need some oxyclean (or the clone, which is a good idea for the wallet haha) for my brewing setup. The reason I was a bit cautious about using moldy bottles is cause glass is poreous... Even though...

    Sanitizing glass bottles... With mold.

Woooow.... Thought for sure nobody else would've had that question. Sorry for the clutter then.. Lesson learned. Thanks =)

    Sanitizing glass bottles... With mold.

This may be a stupid question, but I dont wanna risk ruining a perfectly good batch of beer. I have a bunch of bottles I would like to use to bottle brew since the brew shop wants an unholy amount of money for the exact same stuff. Only problem is, some of them have old beer in the...

winter brew fermentation fear please help???

Well lagers like cooler temperatures, watch the airlock and make sure the yeasties aren't sleeping. It'll ferment slower in cooler conditions, but if you're really afraid of that (or stalling fermentation), get yourself an early christmas present and buy a brew belt (heater). Pretty cheap...

    Head retention

I'm sure people will have much more technical answers and possible causes, but soap is a huge killer of head retention. So when you're prepping brew equipment and bottles/kegs, don't sanitize with soap. Use water/bleech solutions (1 tbsp bleech for 1 gallon of water) or a rinseless sanitizer...

Noob questions - Delabeling, no chill wort, etc

Thanks for all the info and links guys! Very useful information. I have to say, I have no need for keeping wort yeast-free for an extended period of time, but I'll probably try the no-chill method with a weizen because obviously I wont be too concerned with clarity. Oh, and agreed, Sam...

Noob questions - Delabeling, no chill wort, etc

Can extended time in the secondary fermenter correct this? I believe I racked my blond ale too soon.... I followed the directions from the box, obviously not a good idea in some cases hah... But after a week, I racked it to secondary, and even now, 6 days later, it still shoots off a few bubbles...

Noob questions - Delabeling, no chill wort, etc

Thanks for the response! So what happens if you DO rack too early to secondary? Just wondering what can happen...

    Alabama Homebrewer Arrested

I won't argue this for distilling consumable spirits, but the home production of ethanol/methanol for fuel usage is legal in NY, atleast.

Slammed my thumb in the car door

On an off topic note, how are you liking the crown black? I got some, and was pretty disappointed by lack of smoothness and oaky flavor... They don't claim to be single malt, but still. And that extra ABV in the Crown Black isn't doing the trick for your finger eh? Must've smashed it good haha

Noob questions - Delabeling, no chill wort, etc

Thanks for the quick respsonse! I'll keep the numbering in mind lol, I just felt like numbering to make things easier for myself hah. Craigslist is a good idea though, I'll have to search locally for some glass carboys to try out. The brew shop wants somethin' like 30 bones for one of those...
