    Only StarSan for cleaning?

Whoa! Rinse overnight? Not if you clean it well. I use PBW for all my cleaning. Good scrub and rinse. Just common sense. Starsan before use. Never a problem on 35 brews.

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

Tasting my second batch. I added 2oz of coffee at primary to this one. Very good with a touch of coffee. But honestly I like the original better.

    Distilled or RO

I also use test trips and RO, Distilled and tap water test fine for two months. Never try longer because I just mix more at that point.

    Add coffee???

So many ways I use 2-4oz of good quality coffee beans. I drop them whole in primary for 5-10 days. Delicious flavor and zero bitterness at all.

    First time brewer with questions

Buy some NyQuil and call it a day. You can drink your mouth wash too to get alcohol.

Grain miller, how important is it?

That is why I said unless you will crush more than 16++lbs. Personally I really doubt anyone will notice a difference in a beer crushed rotated manually versus with a drill. What is really important and very noticeable will be the crush thickness used.

Grain miller, how important is it?

Unless you’re going to crush 16+++ pounds I wouldn’t care too much about motorizing right away. I think many here are very lazy if they complain about crushing 7-15 lbs. Get the crusher and just use it.

Grain miller, how important is it?

Got cereal killer and my efficiency skyrocketed. I don’t mind cranking 3-5 min for the 7-14.5lbs 5 gal brews I do. Maybe in the future I may try a drill. I have one already.

    How bad did I oxidize?

Probably just co2 bubbles. Where will o2 come in??

Help - Is this an infected batch?

That’s no infection to me. Have had same in some brews. No issues for me.

What is the one best change you've made to upgrade your beer quality?

I started right away keging with closed transfer and ferm temp control. Going all grain crushing my grains and water chemistry made a big difference.

    Carbonation stone cleaning?

I guess I have been lucky. No over complications. After use I clean with 138f water and blow co2. Then soak in PBW for 1-3 minutes and repeat above water soak. Maybe every 4-5 beers carbed then I boil. I spray starsan and store in air. One year, 33 brews and no issues.

    Technique for measuring mash pH

I assumed the ATC is not big range. So my basement is usually around 63-64F when brewing so I try to get the sample to at least in the high 70s to low 80s before I measure.

    Tilt Hydrometer

It works with my Anvil fermenter and keezer but I keep the phone I use for it next to them when I use them. If I move them too far it drops. For my glass carboys it works the 20+ft distance away from the keezer. I have two so sometimes I have one batch cold crashing while another one is...

    Foot switch for brew pump

You got the wrong part number. One is a momentary switch and the other a stay on. Correct item # is 96618. Box looks identical except for description on top and at least in my store they are all together. Easy to get the wrong one if not paying attention.

    Cold crashing suck back solutions

Still, not seeing that happen. I leave my carboy 4-12 days and only use 1/4 to 1/2 ballon.

First timer - deciding to do AG method

Seems you have done your homework! I think doing some ales first will help you see/learn the fermentation process to better prepare you for a lager. I started a little over a year ago and after 33 brews I do want to do a lager soon. Problem is it will occupy my cold crash freezer for too long so...

    Cold crashing suck back solutions

I don’t get this. I hook up a balloon that is about the size of maybe 2 gallons. Going from 61F to 33F it deflates at most one third. This is on a 6.5g carboy with 5.2g of liquid.

    What am I tasting?

Since I started brewing a year ago I have been drinking all samples I take starting with the OG sample when I put the cool wort in fermenter. I drink every sample along the way until keging and then of course final product. That will quickly give you experience to tell right away if something is...

    Filtering

When I started brewing I started to look for filters and tools to filter beer. Glad I didn't buy any. I quickly found out that the best way to get clear beer is to cold crash, and for almost perfect clear then also add gelatin finings at cold crash. This creates an almost relatively solid...
