Fridgenstein Side-By-Side Kegerator / Fermentation chamber

Thanks, Bradley! I'm very happy with it. I think mistercameron deserves a great deal of the credit for his write up. My main deviations were the primitive adaptation of a digital controller, squeezing out every millimeter in determination to have a three keg system while maintaining as much...

Fridgenstein Side-By-Side Kegerator / Fermentation chamber

Sorry for this late response; I missed your question when it was posed. I opted to let the fridge do its own thing with respect to cooling. The only issue I have is the need to manually defrost every 3 to 6 months and I know it's time to do this when cooling the refrigerator side becomes...

    Kegerator project -- completed exterior

This is my kegerator/fermentation chamber. I may add a drip tray at some point but am otherwise finished with the project.

    Kegerator project -- tap labels

I used 2x3 magnetic acrylic picture frames to hold labels for the taps.
  6. Kegerator project -- keg stand

    Kegerator project -- keg stand

A stand was constructed to contain three kegs with an additional shelf for a 5 lb CO2 cylinder. The high-pressure gauge was later removed so that the cylinder would tuck in completely behind the stand.

    Fully loaded and connected.

Kegerator project -- door repair 1

The rust has been sanded and Bondo applied. The mounting plate has been cut to fit inside the former water/ice dispenser and will be attached to the screw holes that once held the controls for the dispenser.

Kegerator project -- door repair 2

The door has been painted; the remaining imperfections will be obscured by a cover plate.
  10. Kegerator project -- controller placement

    Kegerator project -- controller placement

The temperature controllers have been mounted and are covered by a clear plastic door.
  11. Kegerator project -- controller wires

    Kegerator project -- controller wires

Controller wires were run through the door hinge to assist with tidiness. To accomplish this, a hole was drilled through the cabinet into the controller space and tubing inserted to prevent the metal from cutting into the wire.

Fridgenstein Side-By-Side Kegerator / Fermentation chamber

My side by side fridge has a digital control board also, but with buttons instead of dials. Rather than wire the STC controllers into those, I wired the cooling side of each controller to the control board power. For heating, I elected to use the 60W incandescent appliance light bulbs already...

    Orange(less) Wheat; Hop Help

Update: I didn't quite get the solo orange characteristic I was aiming for, but this is one spectacular beer: mangos, passionfruit, grapefruit, pineapple, and tangerines. This won't last long and is going to be a house favorite. Type: All Grain Batch Size (fermenter): 5.25 gal Boil Time: 90...

    Tastes like burning

Has anyone gotten burning or saltiness from their hop additions? I made a wheat APA two weeks ago and noted that the wort that was transferred into the fermenter was harsh to the point of creating a throat burning sensation and perhaps slightly salty. I did use mineral additions, but that...

    Orange(less) Wheat; Hop Help

Thanks for the responses. I'll probably switch out the Styrian Goldings for Centennial and add some Summit for finishing and dry hop while crossing my fingers in hopes that I don't end up with carbonated onion soup. Edit: Oops, I forgot to ask about a protein rest. At 18% flaked wheat, would...
