Partial Mash vice Steeping - What's the difference?

That sounds great... and cheaper than the DME. So I guess I'm about to start my first adventure in Partial Mash. Thanks again!

Partial Mash vice Steeping - What's the difference?

I appreciate all of the help so far!! 6.6 lbs. (3.0 kg) Briess light, unhopped, malt extract 1.7 lbs. (0.77 kg) light dry extract 22 oz. (0.62 kg) flaked oats 1.0 lb. (0.45 kg) chocolate malt (350 °L) 12 oz. (0.34 kg) roast barley malt (450 °L) 9.0 oz. (0.25 kg) debittered, black malt...

Partial Mash vice Steeping - What's the difference?

This sounds much easier than I thought it would be. I'm planning a Stout, but would be using just Amber LME with Light DME. I think a substitute of *some* 2-row should work well.

Partial Mash vice Steeping - What's the difference?

Can I just adjust the amount of DME/LME for 2-row (or a similar fermentable grain) and adjust accordingly in Beer Smith? I'll do the research on the flavor profiles and the correct substitute, I just want to make sure I'm going down the right road here.

Partial Mash vice Steeping - What's the difference?

Hmm... this complicates things immensely :) I have a spare cooler, but I'm not terribly excited about trying to make a Mash Tun out of it. Most of the online videos I've seen are too daunting or way too complicated.

Partial Mash vice Steeping - What's the difference?

Okay, this makes sense.... but I'm a bit confused about the grains that "can" be steeped. So, I have Flaked Oats, that MUST be mashed, but I also have a lot of crystal-type grains that can be steeped. Can I mash them all together, or should I do the calculation of the PM just for the Flaked...

Partial Mash vice Steeping - What's the difference?

So, as the title states, what's the huge difference? When can I click the "Partial Mash" button in Beer Smith? The instructions in a recipe clone I want to use, talk about "steeping" the grains at a certain temperature, and then pouring water over the top to rinse the grains. Isn't that...

Keezer Questions - Where to start

I want to have three kegs on tap, and I'm thinking a collar. I've already talked to SWMBO and she said she doesn't care if I do the full convert or use picnic taps for now. Heck, I don't even have any kegs yet, because there would be no purpose without a way to chill them.

Looking for Founders Breakfast Stout - Willing to Trade

Hmm, I'm not a huge fan of IPA's so I've never really checked. Let me go look at the craft brew store next time and I'll let you know. Thanks!

Keezer Questions - Where to start

So, I've got an older chest freezer in my garage that isn't really getting used. I just got my Christmas bonus from work, and I'm interested in buying a few Kegs. I'm getting really tired of bottles quickly. Where do I start? Is there a "How to" for dumbies? Thanks a lot guys (and gals)!

Looking for Founders Breakfast Stout - Willing to Trade

I'm looking to try a Founders Breakfast Stout (as I'd like to make a Homebrew version) and I'd like to see how it tastes first. I can trade you any local craft beer, or a home brews from myself as well. Please let me know if anyone is interested. I've got a Wit, a Blackberry Wheat, and a...

    How to clear my beer?

Ok, so I took a Hydrometer sample, and it's definitely done fermenting, and has been for a few days. There are all kinds of crap floating in the beer, to the point it's almost disgusting. I tried to filter the sample through my fine fine sifter, and I pulled A LOT of stuff out, but I couldn't...

    Coffee Chocolate Stout?

In looking at the different recipes on here, and BYO, they all seem to sit around 7.5%. Should we be adding more LME in here? Also, why the Light LME instead of the Dark LME? What is the difference in flavor comparison? The Imperial Stout that's on Northern Brewers site uses 12lbs of LME.

    Coffee Chocolate Stout?

Haha yeah... I know it wont be like Freetails, but man, that changed my mind on Stouts :)

    Coffee Chocolate Stout?

The few kits that have "Peace Coffee" seem to be coarsely ground coffee that is added to the secondary... I wonder if I can go find some decent quality coffee beans at the local store and have it ground there?

    How to clear my beer?
