    Modelo Negra clone

Here's another version from "Clone Brews" book. It doesn't mention corn, but I use some in mine and it's delicious. I guess it's wrong about the style, because it claims Vienna lager. I don't think there's any question that it falls outside of both styles discussed.

    Modelo Negra clone

Careful. I suggested something similar and was informed that they want a Munich Dunkel. That does look like a good recipe (with a good record), and very similar to what I use.

    Modelo Negra clone

Well it's not exactly a Vienna, but that's cool. I guess you already have the recipe you were requesting? I'd also like to see a true "Munich dunkel" brewed with rice (or 6 row for that matter). You'd be surprised what the corn does for the Mexican character of this beer.

First Mexican Lager, need some clarification

The corn won't add body, but it does add flavor and a slight corn sweetness.

First Mexican Lager, need some clarification

Maybe for a lighter version? 5 lb Pilsner 5 lb Vienna 2 lb Flaked corn 0.25 lb Carapils 0.25 - 0.5 lb Crystal 10 or 20 Same hops and yeast as above. And to make it even lighter adjust the pilsner to Vienna ratio so it's heavier on pilsner. I have not tested this recipe, but I have brewed the...

First Mexican Lager, need some clarification

^^^This and Definitely try to get the 940, I really think it makes a difference and adds a certain amount of Mexican beer character. This will get you a very good Negra Modelo type beer (if done right), if you decide to go with something a little darker. The corn and yeast make this beer...

    Are those from bottles?

We no need no stinking beer gun...

Not in my experience. Longer lines just slows down the flow. I guess if you went crazy with the length (and didn't increase pressure), you could have so much restriction that it wouldn't flow at all. But that wouldn't happen with 12 psi and 20 ft of line. After starting with 20 ft, the line...

We no need no stinking beer gun...

If you're using picnic taps already, there's a pretty easy fix but most people don't like hearing it... LONG beer line. And the longer the better. I don't know what length lines you're using for your system, but I'd use a longer one for bottling. This was how I got the best results with the...

We no need no stinking beer gun...

I don't bottle very much, but for the occasional competition or to empty a keg to make room for a new one, it's nice to have. I have an actual BeerGun too, but it just sits in the box.

We no need no stinking beer gun...

I bottle at serving pressure (12 to 16 psi), but I built a counterpressure bottle filler in order to accomplish this. The original method works ok, but I don't know that it will ever give you as good a quality bottled beer, with as good a shelf life as a co2 purged, counterpressure filled...

    Can't fix this foam issue

Don't just buy 10 ft of tubing. Use the calculator that was linked to determine what you need. My wheat beer is served at like 16 psi, 10 ft wouldn't work for me at that pressure. If you really don't want to use the calculator for some reason, start with closer to 14 ft. Might be a little long...

First Mexican Lager, need some clarification

There is a possibility it WILL be bad beer. Can't guarantee that. It should at least be beer though. Since the OP wasn't able to get the right yeast for the recipe, it could end up being just a practice lager run. I really think the Mexican lager yeast would make a difference for this beer. I...

First Mexican Lager, need some clarification

I'm no professional either, but it DOES seem like an underpitch on the yeast. Maybe 2 packs, both rehydrated? I've never used dry lager yeast, but I know I'm usually at 3 to 5 liters on my liquid yeast starters.

    Cloudy after dry hop

I typically use one teaspoon in a half cup of water.

First Mexican Lager, need some clarification

The syringe came from Amazon. I think the half cup water/tspn gelatin comes in at around 110 mL, so I went with a 150 ml sized syringe. There's a small piece of racking tubing hose clamped to the tip of the syringe, followed by a swivel fitting (flare fitting) that connects to the grey gas ball...

This is a helpful setup for getting gelatin into a keg with introducing a bunch of oxygen.

First Mexican Lager, need some clarification

The amount of sugar seems a little high, but I haven't made that beer and can't find much as far as an accurate Corona clone for reference. I might dial it back to 5% and make up the difference with pilsner malt. Pilsner and corn at 80/20 or 85/15 might get you close, and if you're wanting to...
