    Spoon in mead

Just make sure it's not lubricated, right? ... might throw some off flavors. However, this would be considered the only time it's acceptable to poke a pinhole in a condom, right?

I was going to say the same thing.

    Open Aerobic Days...

I'd love to try it out, but I don't think it'd be a possibility unless I was trying to make a dog hair mead. Oh, to have a completely sterile environment to brew... But, uh... what that guy said. Yeah. I hear a lot of people do it, but I've never done it myself.

My Old Kentucky Homebrew is OPEN!!

Wow, I missed this post somehow. Although, I feel bad hijacking another promotional thread. I will have to check both places out.

    Leap Year 2012?

hey, that's good to know. would you recommend adding it in primary or secondary? And about how long do you leave it on the powder / lees?

    Leap Year 2012?

I dunno. Just everything I've read says that the cocoa has oils that take a long time to break down if you want to get the "full effect" / flavor of the chocolate. I'm assuming that nibs are probably more complex than powder in this case, probably taking longer. But again, no experience...

Mead as a baby shower gift - need advice on logistics

You could always just start a batch when the kid's 16 or 17, and just let it age 4 or 5 years. ;) Wouldn't be what you're going for, obviously. Just sayin'...

    Leap Year 2012?

I want to try this, but I don't think I've got the skill to make a bochet. Afraid I'll burn the honey. But I'm willing to give it a shot, because it sounds delicious. Quick question about the nibs - roasted or raw? Also, how many / much per gallon? Edit: I'd recommend nibs over powder...

    Strawberry Chocolate Mead (experiment)

Okay, so fermentation's slowed down a bit. So, it's stupid question time! I read on the liquid sex chocolate mead recipe that to break down the enzymes and oils of the cocoa, you leave it in primary for a year. But I've also heard that leaving your mead on the lees for too long will lead to...

    Purchasing mead

This is one reason why living in KY sucks. None of the "good" meaderies are allowed to ship here. Stupid dumb laws and ****.

Third 1 gallon batch - thoughts?

Yeah, I'm not sure why I was worried. I think it's just because I've read about honey separation happening in primary, where it's "ok" to shake it up.

    First Racking, Top Up?

I guess it's all in your preference. I've racked and topped off with water/honey a few times now, and I haven't noticed too much of a difference. Although honestly, I don't have enough experience to make that call. Purists will say "never top up with water", and others say it's no biggie. I...

    Reducing loss at racking.

    So how'd it turn out?
  15. B

Third 1 gallon batch - thoughts?

Well, I made a rookie mistake. Racked it onto 2 lbs of frozen strawberries, lost more than I expected to, and topped up with .25lb of honey and a little bit of water (not much, I swear). But in my INFINITE WISDOM, I didn't think to mix the honey/water first. So I've got this nice little...

Well, ****. Should have read this thread a few hours ago...

My Old Kentucky Homebrew is OPEN!!

You and me both. I'll be up to L-ville in about a month. Can't wait to check it out. Liquor Barn has really stepped up their game in the HomeBrew department, though, so I've survived this long.
