Tips on sanitizing one or two pieces of equipment

So I need to check the FG on my beer that has hopefully finished fermenting but I need a way to sanitize just the utensil I will use to grab a sample, not a whole slew of equipment. My normal method is to make up about a 4 gallon solution of Iodophor solution on brew or bottling day to...

    Homemade Wort Chiller

I have that exact same brewpot and will probably be making a wort chiller close to what you did. Looks great!

    Uneven conditioning

Were they all stored in the same area with same temps? If some bottles got warmer or colder it would change the way they condition. It could also be that some bottles got more yeast in the beginning which would lead to a faster carbing and conditioning.

    First beer, first sample

Probably still green. I have been drinking my first beer on a daily basis and at the 1 week mark the beer was still very malty with no hop flavor. I am on day 10 and the beer already tastes a lot different than it did at day 7. I would imagine that by day 21 the beer will taste completely...

    5 gallon vs. 6.5 gallon

I must have been looking at the glass when I was comparing sizes. The 6 gallon is what I will go with then. Thanks for the advice! :mug:

    5 gallon vs. 6.5 gallon

So I am looking to get a better bottle to use as a secondary to free up my primary bucket so I can get two batches rolling at the same time. My question is: should I get a 6.5 gallon size so that I can use it as a primary if need be(maybe skip racking to secondary and just have two beers in the...

First Solo Brew w/ New Equip

By took off quick I saw the airlock bubbling within 4 hours. I was using dry yeast that I rehydrated. It was a 1.070 OG brew too.

Which Beer Took Your "BMC Virginity"

DFH 90 minute IPA. Before that I thought beer was supposed to taste like bread at best and water at worst.

First Solo Brew w/ New Equip

What temperature did you pitch the yeast at? Did you aerate well? Hopefully someone else can chime in because in all my batches fermentation took off quick so I don't have much troubleshooting experience.

    Hello from Central Pa

Sadly there are no LHBS in the State College area. The nearest one I know of is in Altoona: http://www.oakspringwinery.com/brew.htm I can't vouch for its quality since I have never been there but it looks like they carry a decent selection. I am guessing the market for home brewers in...

First Solo Brew w/ New Equip

What are you fermenting in? Buckets are hard to seal perfectly so if there is no bubbling it may just be the lid isn't on tight. Look in and see if you can see any foam buildup. To seal the bucket I've found backing the lid completely off the threads and then re-tighten usually works so you...

    Hello from Central Pa

State College to be exact. Bottled my first my batch and it tastes quite good for how little I knew what I was doing. My 2nd batch is about a week into its fermentation and I already am looking at recipes for my 3rd. I'm in a small apartment so I don't have room for a lot of equipment but I...
