    Dry hopping = sheen?

Heh, thanks for the replies guys. I wasn't too worried about the beer because even flat and 2 weeks old, it still was pretty tasty, so I knew nothing could have gone too wrong :) Now I just have to wait 3 weeks for it to carb up fully...

    Dry hopping = sheen?

Query: I recently dry hopped for the first time and when I went to bottle the beer I noticed a sheen on the surface of my beer. Was I right in assuming that this was oils from the dry hopping? If so, how does the oil distribute into the bottled beer? Is it relatively even? I'm not worried...

Exploded Fermenter, Will it do it again?

Good call on the MacGyver'd blow-off guys, I went to fix my spare airlock with the siphon hose and just as I was pulling off the 3 piece that I'd put on an hour ago, kraeusen was already started to bubble into the 3 piece!

Exploded Fermenter, Will it do it again?

The point of the 6.5 gallon carboy is less for the size (my primary bucket is already 6.5 gallons) but more because the mouth size will make using a large blow-off tube simple. For reference: the beer was brewed on Saturday night. I've been keeping it at a steady 66 throughout fermentation...

Exploded Fermenter, Will it do it again?

OK, in the realm of exploded primaries this is relatively benign. Woke up this morning to make coffee and went to check my primary only to find that the beer had come through the airlock. Not a lot got through, maybe about 1/2 cup of kraeusen had pooled on top of the bucket. I took the bucket...

Dry Hopping Loose, cheese cloth filter?

Update: I bottled the Pale today using a cheese cloth filter over the end of the siphon hose and it worked fine. I cut a fairly large piece of cheese cloth and then held it with a fairly good amount of space between the end of the hose and the cloth. For most of the siphon it collected very...

Dry Hopping Loose, cheese cloth filter?

Well, I plan on bottling Sunday now, since tomorrow is another brewing day (happy yeast working on their starter snack right now) but I'll be sure to post a follow-up, as I'm definitely interested in finding an effective way of getting loose hops out of the secondary with minimal fuss. Kilted...

Dry Hopping Loose, cheese cloth filter?

OK, good advice guys, thanks. The cheese cloth over the racking cane is so obvious that it didn't even occur to me. :o :mug:

Dry Hopping Loose, cheese cloth filter?

I've just recently gotten into home brewing, and I'm only now getting ready to bottle my second batch, which is a PM Pale that I dry-hopped with Amarillo and Columbus pellets. Here's the thing, before I added the hops to the secondary I read through many pages of discussion on dry-hopping in...

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

Excellent thread, I'm a newbie brewer, but I love the idea of being able to use PM to give myself more options than pure extract and specialty grains. One question (with a probably obvious answer): I am a big fan of Hoppe, a beer that uses white wheat. I see that white wheat often comes with a...
