    Alcohol Boost and FG

Awesome thanks. Just tested it out of curiosity and its right at 1.013. Slightly boozey tasting but I assume that will condition out?

    Alcohol Boost and FG

I added an AHS 1% alcohol boost to my wort during brewing. The FG that AHS recommends with the brown ale kit I brewed is 1.013. Quick question; will the boost affect what this suggested FG should be?

    Chlorine Disaster?

Also an option, sometimes leaving it in the sunlight will help reduce the chlorine smell quite a bit.

Couple of questions from a first timer...

You have to pull some out using a sanitized thief, which is essentially a fancy turkey baster that allows you draw directly from the carboy.

Couple of questions from a first timer...

Is the ice bath keeping the brew at the proper temp required for the yeast? If you're too cold the yeast wont wake up, wont eat the sugar and thus wont produce the CO2 you're looking for. From my very novice experience the chilling of the wort prior to adding yeast is simply to bring the temp...

    Props to Northern Brewer

I will also throw out there that AHS is great. The other day I called up because they sent me the wrong size tubing to work with my auto-siphon and, as some of you have seen from my first brew post it ended up aerating my beer quite a bit. A bit downtrodden I called them and explained the...

    First Brew

And one last question to boot; The recipe which came with my kit says to keep it in the primary and secondary for 7 days each. Would it hurt to leave it in the secondary an extra week until my friend who is experienced with homebrewing is in town to help with bottling?

    First Brew

Yep, sadly due to the malfunction in the auto siphon I couldnt really figure out a way to get it into the secondary without creating that air. Still quite peeved about that. Like you said I can only hope that the beer gods are in a forgiving mood! :) On a side note, unless I can fix the...

    First Brew

There was probably just under an inch or so at the bottom of the primary. I neglected to say in my initial post that I used one pill of yeast food in the initial brew.

    First Brew

Started with the Evil Ale from over at AHS in the form of a minimash. From their site "This brown strikes a balance between malt sweetness and hop bitterness. It is a darker beer without the expected bitterness." Includes Vienna, Crystal 60L, and chocolate grains. O.G. = 1.051. Approximately...
