Dallas / Fort Worth Grain Buy #4

Put me down for 2 sacks. PM sent your way.

    Lowes food grade buckets

Check in the paint section for lids, I use one of these buckets along with a lightweight, blue snap on style lid for storing starsan. It seems to me that they also had the heavier normal snap on lids for these buckets, and some gamma seal style lids, but it has been over a year since I bought my...

Got some little chilis from the m-i-l...

I would make some hot sauce with those little guys, just put them in a bottle and fill it full of vinegar, for a nice hot sauce that goes well in beans, soup, black eyed peas, etc. You really need to chomp down onto one of them to, before you pickle them.

    Safe Starsan storage

I store it mine in a 5 gallon food grade bucket from lowes, It will last quite some time, and I usually only change mine when it is looking overly cloudy. It will last longer if mixed with distilled water instead of tap water. Really to judge longevity, you would need to measure the pH of the...

    HF CO2 Tanks

A quick search on google says that 1lb of CO2 is approximately 8cuft, so you are looking at a fairly small tank.

Is my Closet Brewery safe from bug bomb?

If they are using bug bombs, they will probably open all the closet/cabinet doors to allow the bug spray to cover all surfaces. I would definitely go with the trash bag idea for the carboys, and either remove or trash bag any other brewing gear you don't want covered with bug spray.

Is there anything I can use this for? Stainless steel

Throw a wash rag into that carboy along with a little oxi-clean and water and start swirling, hopefully that will remove the gunk. You can't sanitize something that isn't clean.

    What are you drinking now?

Just finished a can of Oskar Blues Gubna IIPA, and am now working on a glass or two of citra pale ale, while thinking about cracking a bottle of No Lable don Jalapeno ale next. Wait, make that I am now drinking the Jalapeno.

Stuck in a rut, how do you choose your next brew?

I usually end up choosing something that sounds good after much reading, and more then a couple of home brews. Just be sure to note what sounds goods so you don't have a memory lapse the next morning and stick to your choice. Better yet, order the ingredients while you are still under the...

    The Bubbler from Northern Brewer?

I ordered a pair of the 6g bottles last time they had them on sale, and they do seem thicker then my better bottles. I gave one to a friend and still have the other sitting in the box, right next to a 6g better bottle still new in the box. Just debating if I should order another pair...

    Praxair

Praxair will refill or exchange his tank, although it might take them a day or two if they have to send it to a refill station. Some praxair locations fill on site, while others use a central filling station. They almost always have exchange tanks so you can walk out with a full one if you don't...

    Praxair

I would have at it with the polishing wheel, or just shoot some fresh paint on it. Just be careful with it and don't drop it or ram the valve into anything and it will be fine.

How many Co2 tanks ya got?

6, 5 - 20lb tanks and 1 - 5lb tank. The 20lb'rs are on my kegorator, fountain drink machine, and welder, with the other 2 and the 5lb as spares. The 5lb tank does occasionally get used on my aquarium when I feel like trying to amp up plant growth, but haven't messed with that in a while. I also...

Any good beer pubs/restaurants in NE Dallas area?

I would hit up Flying Saucer for a good beer selection, they are off of I30 and Bass Pro Drive if memory serves me correctly.

    Mice in brewhouse

Look at it this way, every batch of beer we make probably has some small percentage of mouse droppings in it, along with the possible bug bits. Just think about how the grain is produced, stored, transported, etc...

    xlr receptacles for multi-purpose use?

Neutrik, an industry standard brand, only rates their XLR connectors to 50VAC and 16A. Most of the standard xlr cables you might pickup cheaply at radio shack, guitar center, etc, will be of a very light guage wire. I would avoid using xlr connectors for 120V, but if I was to try it, I would...

Bulk storing hops : Hinged jar and flood with CO2

You might want to rethink the mylar bags from AHS as I doubt that they will work with your rival sealer. Here is the description from AHS: "These bags can be used to reseal bulk hops with an impulse heat sealer or some vacuum sealers (a "Food Saver" will not be able to vacuum seal). These are...

Looking for cool bottle openers for a wedding

You might look into having some custom bottle openers made by a machine shop. Maybe something with the bride and grooms initial's and date, or ? It shouldn't be too bad to get a batch of them made out of stainless, or even aluminum, as they are easy enough to cut on a water jet table. A local...

Possible direct spark ignitor alternative. Robertshaw 785-001

It might be worth looking at Benni Technologies Maxliter direct spark ignition system. I haven't personally used them, but I have a few friends who have used there products and have been quite pleased with them. http://www.bennitechnologies.com/DSI.html Also, a dual electrode setup will let...
