First Rack: Foamy Sanitizer... OK to leave some residual?

Here's a good foam thread for you: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f85/stupid-starsan-tricks-why-you-shouldnt-fear-foam-127044/index9.html

    The slippery slope of homebrewing...

I brewed 5 or 6 batches before moving to all grain via biab, mainly for the cost savings. Living in an apartment, I don't really have room for a full 3 tier setup, although craigslist has produced most everything I need, minus the stand for a keggle setup. Still haven't used any it, just biab on...

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

I brewed this AG biab this past sunday, and it is happily fermenting away. My fermentation fridge sure does smell good...

Man Skirt Brewday video - all grain, 25g, plate chiller, conical

Damn you, now it will be quite sometime before I can look at a cute female in a skirt and boots the same way...now it will be thoughts of beer... Nice video by the way.

first biab - 7 gallon kettle

Depending the amount of grain you are using, mash with something like 4 gallons and top it off to 5.5-6 gallons before you start your boil. Just be diligent about watching for boil overs and you will be good to go.

    How big of a pot?

Here's another vote for the 10g pot, it just makes things much easier/cleaner. I did start out with an 8 gallon aluminum pot from target for under $25 and recently upgraded when I found a deal on craigslist for the 10g stainless pot. I brewed many a biab batch in that 8g aluminum pot, just kept...

Interested in getting this keg setup whats it worth??

If the price is right, then you might consider it, I picked up something similar to that, but probably a different brand for $150, and quickly upgraded the tower to a triple faucet unit as I was able to fit 3 ball lock kegs in it. I normally see them in my area listed on craigslist for $250-$350...

    Eeew, WTF is that nastiness?

You end up with a clear area right around the bottom of the dip tube from which you are drawing beer, but when you are hitting that last pint or so the dropping beer level pulls some of the trub/yeast that is at the bottom of the keg towards the dip tube and into your glass. Also, it always...

Show us your Sous Vide Cooker!

I did the cooler bit this weekend with a steak, and I will definitely be cooking with this method in the future. Things to ponder, my hot water comes out of the bathtub faucet at 167*F, and can I place a temperature controller inline with my electric stove.

Some people perception of a Home brewer or am I the only one?

Ehh, keeps things amusing...lol My parents/siblings understand what I do, and my mom thinks it would be fun to have beer and wine on tap in their bar, she is not a big beer person .

    beer

Man, my beer, well spent grains, sure as heck yell at me when I forget to take the garbage out.

Some people perception of a Home brewer or am I the only one?

Could I go cold turkey on not drinking for a month? Absolutely, but I sure as **** can't go a month without brewing a batch. I have some family that probably thinks I am a drug/booze addled roadie, simply because they don't understand what I do, and that was before I started home brewing.

    Things a Homebrewer Thinks

Hmm, another batch ready to keg, and no room in the kegerator, whatever shall I do...oh wait, thy glass just refilled itself...

Dallas / Fort Worth Grain Buy #4

I am assuming he was banned for his post in the for sale section, and not this group buy. I don't mind him making a small percent for having to deal with unloading all the grain and setting up times to deal with everyone for pickups. I was quite happy to see a group buy in the dfw area since I...

Poll: Are you a kegger or bottler?

I started with kegs from my first batch, as bottling just didn't sound like to much fun. A couple of good deals came up for kegs and for the kegerator while my first batch was still fermenting.

    grain crush problem

If you are doing biab brewing, that crush would probably be just fine. I will have to let someone else chime in on more traditional methods and dealing with stuck sparges, etc. I remember reading someone on here, that one person was using a rolling pin to crush grain, probably a messy, slow...
