    Sulfate additions

Sorry it took me so long to post. It is the Eclipse Stags Leap kit with skins. There may have been a scant amount of sediment and it seemed clear to me. There was just a slight hint of gas to it so my last transfer I did a vaccum splash rack. Hopefully that plus the vaccum will be...

    why go electric?

Absolutely this!! Went the 20L braumeister route, and it has been the greatest purchase ever!! My brew day is much shorter then it was with propane. No fumes. Brewing in underwear in wintertime is the best!

    Corn sugar in the keg

I don't think I thought of that, thank you. I may seal them with CO2, then allow them to carb with the sugar. I may just end up trying to put all 6 kegs on co2 at the same time (somehow) Thanks for the help

    Corn sugar in the keg

I like the carbonation better that way, plus I have more kegs then I do connectors. Force carb for me means plugging it into a tank....nothing at high pressures.

    Corn sugar in the keg

Hi all, I will be putting beer into 3 gallon kegs. Obviously from a 5 gallon batch one will be full, the other 2 gallons. I like corn sugar carbonation rather then force carbing. How much sugar should I put into the keg PER GALLON, if I want to carbonate ? Just an average assuming a...

    Sulfate additions

Another question regarding this. I did the kit instructions for the merlot and added the extra 1/4tsp to bulk age. From that time (day28) to a week ago (day 60) I racked again to degass one more time and plan to let it sit for 2 more months until I get back from vacation. During this rack...

    Sulfate additions

How often are you racking? If I rack every 1-2 months do you still suggest you add extra, or only if you let it sit for 5-6 months? When you add it at bottling, do you just mix it in before putting into bottles? Does this change if I am doing kit wines since they come premeasured with...

    Sulfate additions

I am currently doing both kit wines and a couple 3 gallon wines made from a fruit base. I am just curious on how and when to add Kmeta for the wines. For my merlot, it is a kit, I am at the point of ready to bottle according to the directions. So for this one I added the extra if I am...

    Portable igloo cooler kegerator

I just got the 3 gallon kegs and the 70qt cooler in the mail, however I can not fit them inside. They seem to be too large in circumference. What should I do? Am i missing something? I have also cut off the small rubber protrusion on the bottom of the keg, but they still do not fit.

    Water report and that Calcium

Ok, so playing with that site, after putting in 1tsp (4gm) gypsum and 0.2tsp (1gram) calcium chloride, I get..... Ca 53, mg and na the same, so4 82.7, Cl 18, and HCO3 70.9 does that seem more reasonable and am I doing it correctly? I use the braumeister electric brewing rig, so I assume I can...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

For me, I absolutely love my 20L. I brew in my basement, and can not be any easier. 1. to get to mash in temp it takes about 30-45 minutes iirc 2. to get to mashout is another 1-2 hrs depending on your cycle that you program. 3. I get up to boiling in another 30 or so minutes...it is...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

Is my technique of adding the DME and substituting it for the base malt at the 20-30 min boil mark correct then? Just for future reference if I need to reduce the grain amount? Thanks for the info on the weight amounts for the 20L, trying to avoid any issues.

OG should be right around 1.076. I only have the 20L BM, so the amount of grain is tight.

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

I am going to do a bourbon imperial porter and was trying to tweak the ingredients to fit a grain bill in the unit. I do not want to do any double mash, just substitute DME for 2 row. How does this look? This is based off of Denny Conn's recipe. 5lbs pale malt 3lbs DME 2.5lbs munich 1.5...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

Does anyone have a method for using the 20L with a no-sparge setup? I don't have access to additional burners and would prefer to keep it as simple as possible. Does anyone here just brew the recipe and then add a certain amount of DME to make up for the loss in efficiency? If so, any advice...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

So, I noticed in my new house the washer and dryer are plugged into a normal 3 prong plug and not the typical dryer plug. I was thinking, it is possible or has anyone done this....used a european to US plug adapter and just plug it in to a regular outlet. I am assuming since the drying is...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

Just got my 20L in the mail! She's a beauty!! Anyway, I want to fashion a dip tube. The engineering part of my brain does not work. I notice the posts saying the people are making them, just not the directions on how to...=) What have you done and what parts have you used to fashion one...
