    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

Question for you all, Has anyone tried putting a stainless scrub pad between the coils and the outflow at the bottom of their BM? I would leave it in for the entire mash/boil cycle....would that work? I am thinking of ways to try to eliminate more trub from getting into the bucket.

    Braumeister + Therminator question

Just as an additional question. What are you braumeister users using to help block the trub getting into your chillers? I am usually just a tip it forward and drain what I can, but with a chiller I would prefer it not get plugged up. I currently use hop bags, so I am mainly concerned...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

I have the 20L version. Does anyone run a therminator with this unit? If so...gravity or with a pump? Do you have something in the kettle to help from picking up the trub to avoid gunk in the chiller? I currently run an immersion chiller, but thinking of an upgrade.

    Braumeister + Therminator question

I am trying to shorten my chilling time. I currently use a BM20L and an immersion chiller and it still takes 30 mins just to get down to high 60s low 70s. Was toying with the idea of adding a plate chiller. I currently gravity feed into the fermenter but I do have a pump also that I use to...

    Broken Carboy

I still use glass (have many plastic carboys also) but I do a couple things differently 1. If the carboy needs to be lifted into anything, I use plastic 2. For transferring I use the allinonewine pump so I do not have to lift glass carboys to siphon 3. I place the empty glass carboy onto...

    Johnson digital controller

So I fired up my freezer with the controller today (haven't used it in the past year) and noticed the unit is reading -8F, thats a negative 8F. freezer isnt on, but the controller is reading that as it's current temperature. I can go through the menus ok including SP and dF, etc.. Does...

    Braumeister Whirlpooling/filtering

What I found to significantly reduce the amount of trub in my braumeister is using paint strainer bags on a home made hop-spider. I got a 4-inch piece of PVC and attached 4 long stainless steel threaded rods to it. This sits on the top of the unit and I attach a paint strainer bag from home...

    Exchanging corks

So a few days ago I bottled a kit merlot and used #8 1st quality corks. Now reading around it seems these do not age as well as #9s. Should/can I change out the cork? How long will these corks keep the wine?

    Prefab Brew Stands

My suggestion, and it may be not what you are looking for, but go electric. I have the Braumeister 20L and will never look back to large stands, running out of gas, getting up on step stools to stir, worrying about 2-3 pots with different temperatures, adjusting gas.......PFFFT

Lots of dispersed break material despite whirlpool efforts

This. Make sure to use a clearing agent (whirfloc or moss). I use a paint strainer bag for my pellet hops. Other then that...I dump everything else into the primary (except for the last really thick mud on the bottom. No worries. It doesn't sit long enough in the primary to pick up...

    Still some gas present

So the general consensus is to let it sit for another few months in the carboy? Everything is already added, so the only thing left is to bottle it. No one recommends doing a couple vacuum transfers to degas it faster or is that not ideal?
  14. B

    Still some gas present

Will it degass if it just sits or do I have to agitate it? Also, will I get it done faster if over the next week I vacuum transfer it 2-3 times?

    Any other suggestions?

    Still some gas present

So this is my 2nd wine from a kit. I did the Winexpert Eclipse Merlot from Stags Leap. Here was my schedule (mostly according to instructions) I did primary for 7 days secondary for 17 days I degassed with a drill mix-stir and put into "bulk aging" with an additional 1/4 tsp KMS for 27...

    Immersion chiller discoloration

Not sure if this is anything to be concerned with, probably not. But certain areas of my chiller are a very bright copper color...almost like a surface coated has been removed. Ideas?

    target mash temp

pre heat your cooler. Throw in a gallon or so of 180 water and let it sit to heat up while you prepare your mash water. That should prevent a significant amount of heat loss from your initial water addition.

Is this normal for a Carboy Cap?

All mine have those little pockets too. Probably something from the manufacturing process. Never had an issue with rinsing it off after use and sanitizing with star san.

    hot break foam

I use fermcap about 5 drops before it gets to a boil. It never foams up and no fears of boil overs. Great product.
