American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

Looking for some advice on this brew. I am new to brewing and brewed this as my first AG batch. Used WLP002 and fermented at 68*. Did a small FWH and the rest were large flameout and hop stands at 170. To me, the beer sort of tastes like citrus flavored flinstone vitamins, or maybe lemon lime...

Question about filling keg from primary

I did this for my first kegging last week. It was tough to do solo for a couple reasons...the main being that the tubing was stored curled up, so it was hard to keep the tubing at the bottom of the keg without it moving around, splashing, and me touching the outside of the tubing with my hands...

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

I bought a couple cases of Pliny recently...$55 for twelve 17oz. bottles...I would WAY rather have 24 ZDs for $40!!!

Question about filling keg from primary

Thanks. As long as the brew bucket and tubing is above the keg, there shouldn't be any issues gravity feeding all the beer in correct?

Question about filling keg from primary

Hey Guys, I want to rack my IPA from my SS Brew Bucket Mini to my ball-lock keg. Can you please tell me if this process will work? Please keep in mind that this will be all gravity fed, not co2 powered. Also, I am leaving sanitation steps out for brevity: 1. Purge keg with co2 and...

    Grainfather q's

I was getting weird numbers with the app. My sparge was off by 0.5gallons compared to their online calculator. I use Brewers friend (there's a free version), ignored the water volumes Brewer friend gave me, and substituted in the numbers from the online calculator...

Just poured my first homebrew ever...

Haha...it was definitely expensive and time consuming. I work for a brewery and hence, get free kegs, which is why I built it. I didn't buy it for Homebrewing, but it worked out perfectly. Reading about bottling, it sounded like a PITA to me!

Just poured my first homebrew ever...

Sorry for all the posts, I need to figure out how to multi quote in one post. Looking up now... As far as why I overshot, its because I boiled for a lot longer than I wanted to. I actually ended up about where I wanted to in FG, so really all that did was give me less beer with a higher abv.

Just poured my first homebrew ever...

I am definitely going to do that. I also have been saving one bottle of zombie dust to bust open and compare all three side by side. I live in CA so I had to trade some Plinys for the ZDs.

Just poured my first homebrew ever...

Already Done! By the way, I was trying to come up with names for my homebrewery and guess what my first idea was? Lone Wolf Brewing. So now whenever is see your avatar, which seems to be pretty often, i cry a little. Hehe.

Just poured my first homebrew ever...

First off, I would like to thank everyone on this site for help. The amount of hours I've spent reading thousands of threads on HBT, combined with the quick responses from helpful vets, has made my first homebrew ever GOOD. I'm shocked, to be honest. It seemed like everything went wrong on...

    Grainfather q's

    1. I'm only two brews down but for both, my numbers were pretty spot on. I used recipes in Brewer's Friend and scaled down to 2.5 gallons, ignored the water quantities, and input the water quantities from the Grainfather water volume calculator instead. 2. Like above, I brew in my kitchen. I'm...

    Don't Do That.

Try hooking up your new CFC to your sink for the first time as a boil is ending...only to realize it won't connect. Don't do that.

    Grainfather!!

So I just did an immersion chiller test on 4 gallons of boiling water in the Grainfather and here's the results, if anyone is interested: Well, mixed feeling about the results here. It cooled like a bat outta hell down to below 140 degrees F, but once it got down to around 80F it was slow as...

Help Diagnosing Off Flavor in APA

I am a total beginner here, but just wanted to throw out an idea. I've heard that dry hopping can sometimes lead to a "grassy" off flavor if left in too long. You said "vegetal" so that is one thing that came to my mind. Now, can the grassy flavor come about from 1 week of dry hopping 1.5ozs...

FT: 12 Pliny, ISO: 24 ZD cans or TH Julius or??

Yeah the shipping on 24 bottles is going to be brutal, but I was able to trade 3 Plinys for a sixer of ZD recently. God that $#*& is good! I hope you find someone to trade with, but you might need to do a smaller trade.

    Yet Another Post-Ferm Refractometer Question

I'm definitely leaning towards that one, or the brewers friend one. I really don't want to use the hydro but it seems like if I want accurate numbers, I'm going to have to.

    Yet Another Post-Ferm Refractometer Question

I'm trying to figure out how to calculate FG using the refractometer and I'm getting different numbers from different online calculators. Is there a general consensus on which calculator is most accurate? I am using Original Brix: 17, Final Brix: 9, and if there is a section for correction, I...
