What Build said. Probably will have no effect whatsoever, depending on where you are in the fermentation. How many days since active fermentation started when this happened?

It seems like more and more people are sending samples to labs and finding their actual IBUs are way off from what Beersmith predicted. Like not even close sometimes.

Lots of commercial breweries cold crash with gelatin instead of filtration. So yeah, sort of interesting point I guess. I'm sure they just say "well none of it ends up in packaging" but I doubt that literally zero gelatin particles get in. Not that I care. I'm sure no government agency is going...

I would say it's a coincidence and that you have a leak. As you correctly stated, a 5# co2 tank should last far longer than one 1/6bbl.

I don't have a lot of experience creating stout recipes, but if you want to make an amazing one based off a preexisting recipe, Google Yooper's Oatmeal Stout. It's on here and very popular. My favorite beer I have made.

What temperature is the water you are sparging with? I'm 10 batches in and don't think I've had this problem - I am sparging with recommended amount at 170F or slightly below. If you are sparging with hotter than 170F, you may be pulling tannins out that way.

Pliny is still pretty hard to find in Southern California. You could use the "find" feature on untappd to see if it's around. Bottles are usually 1 per person limit if you do find it. Thanks for that. I will force carbing in keg and bottling with a gun so the yeast won't be an issue. I think I'll keg it, see what it looks like, and decide whether or not to use gelatin from there.

Is anyone using some sort of filter on top of the overflow pipe? The couple times I decided to let wort go down the overflow pipe, I ended up with a ton of grain in the kettle. I'd like to put a stainless filter on and see if that solves the issue. I have a couple ideas of what I could use, but...

It took me some trial and error (a couple 2 hour boils to reach the FGs I wanted) but I finally figured out how to get my numbers right. In Brewers Friend software im targeting 6.0gallons final kettle volume, and inputting 5.5gallons into the grainfather calculator.
