    Grainfather!!

I have a very important question about your process using the grainfather. What show were you watching?

    IPA Recipe Critique

Thanks guys, will let you know what happens. Debating adding half at flameout but we will see. I hate chilling below 180 and whirlpooling on my system so I'm definitely gonna skip that. Anyone else out there have any feedback on this recipe?

    IPA Recipe Critique

Hey Guys, Please let me know what you think about the below recipe. It's based off of a recipe by Remmy and I have not tried this type of hop schedule yet (no early bittering charge - all IBUs coming from late additions). I usually do a small bittering charge and then whirpool everything...

    Grainfather!!

I would recommend not trying that.

    Saving potentially infected beer

What Build said. Probably will have no effect whatsoever, depending on where you are in the fermentation. How many days since active fermentation started when this happened?

shockingly small 60 min hop addition - Evil Twin (Pro-Version)

It seems like more and more people are sending samples to labs and finding their actual IBUs are way off from what Beersmith predicted. Like not even close sometimes.

    gelatin for kegging

Lots of commercial breweries cold crash with gelatin instead of filtration. So yeah, sort of interesting point I guess. I'm sure they just say "well none of it ends up in packaging" but I doubt that literally zero gelatin particles get in. Not that I care. I'm sure no government agency is going...

Where to find Pliny in SoCal

Baycrest Liquor got some Pliny in today.

    Keezer CO2 Question

I would say it's a coincidence and that you have a leak. As you correctly stated, a 5# co2 tank should last far longer than one 1/6bbl.

Newbie Question on stout recipe design

I don't have a lot of experience creating stout recipes, but if you want to make an amazing one based off a preexisting recipe, Google Yooper's Oatmeal Stout. It's on here and very popular. My favorite beer I have made.

Where to find Pliny in SoCal

There are a few places in south OC that get it fairly regularly. Baycrest Liquor in Costa Mesa - follow their instagram and they will post when they get it in OC wine mart - Aliso Viejo - have to go in and ask the counter for it Pacific Park Market - Aliso Viejo - Have to ask guy at counter...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

So I've brewed this three times now and hot-damn is it good! These kegs just keep on kickin. I am entering it into the Orange County Fair Homebrew Comp next week so crossing my fingers. I think its a bit too bitter (untreated hard water) but we shall see. For my next brew, I was thinking...

Temperature Control: does it matter IF...

I have to disagree with this statement. Here are the costs of my chamber: Frig - $100. I got a fancy glass door coca cola frig. You can get much cheaper or even free on craigslist. Dual stage temp controller - $40 shipped, amazon prime (Inkbird Itc-308) Small heater - $20 bucks shipped amazon...

    Grainfather!!

What temperature is the water you are sparging with? I'm 10 batches in and don't think I've had this problem - I am sparging with recommended amount at 170F or slightly below. If you are sparging with hotter than 170F, you may be pulling tannins out that way.

Craft Beer freak on California for the first time. What must I do?

Pliny is still pretty hard to find in Southern California. You could use the "find" feature on untappd to see if it's around. Bottles are usually 1 per person limit if you do find it. Much easier to find in northern Cali. My favorite breweries in Orange County are: Artifex (San Clemente), Barley...

Competition Question - How much is clarity weighted on stouts?

This was the heart of my question. I think I'll add gelatin, thanks guys!

Competition Question - How much is clarity weighted on stouts?

Thanks for that. I will force carbing in keg and bottling with a gun so the yeast won't be an issue. I think I'll keg it, see what it looks like, and decide whether or not to use gelatin from there.

Competition Question - How much is clarity weighted on stouts?

So I recently discovered there is a homebrew competition close by and entries are 5 bucks. I will have a stout ready in a couple weeks - exactly when submittal time is, so I figured I should just enter it and see what comments I get. This will be my first competition submission. My question...

    Grainfather!!

Is anyone using some sort of filter on top of the overflow pipe? The couple times I decided to let wort go down the overflow pipe, I ended up with a ton of grain in the kettle. I'd like to put a stainless filter on and see if that solves the issue. I have a couple ideas of what I could use, but...

    Grainfather!!

It took me some trial and error (a couple 2 hour boils to reach the FGs I wanted) but I finally figured out how to get my numbers right. In Brewers Friend software im targeting 6.0gallons final kettle volume, and inputting 5.5gallons into the grainfather calculator.
