FAQ: Aluminum Pots for Boil Kettles?

I'm sure it would eventually start to create an oxide layer, however, most chemical reaction times change with temperature. So while it may create a layer with cold water, it should be much quicker with boiling water. I think of metal elements and car radiators that rust quicker because of heat...

FAQ: Aluminum Pots for Boil Kettles?

I'm sure leaving it overnight will start the layer, but boiling the water for a few minutes(maybe 20 minutes at least) and then dumping the water out while it is still hot makes a real nice layer. If you are worried about wasting the energy of boiling water, use the water you boiled for dishes...

FAQ: Aluminum Pots for Boil Kettles?

Once is enough, and then each time you brew normally, the oxide layer will maintain itself :ban:

AKA "the ninja bomb" as we call it in my neck of the woods... Ha ha. I don't care much to be a recipient of a ninja bomb.

    Lager not carbonating

I'm guessing that most of your yeast has settled out from lagering, hence 6 weeks with minimal carbonation. Would seem like a good idea to pitch some fresh yeast so that there is enough yeast to carbonate in a decent time frame. I'm sure brewers that have actually brewed a lager can chime in...

    115V AC computer fan

I think save it for another project and get yourself a 12v pc fan. Easier to control, safer and I'm personally scared of ac power and water /fluids. The ac fan would be awesome in a kegerator or fermentation chamber where it can blow at full speed

    From fermenting to bottling.

Hey dude, congrats on the new kit. Personally, I would ferment for 2 weeks and bottle for 2 weeks. Reasons for this is to ensure fermentation is complete and that the beer ages just enough.

Yet another immersion chiller - first attempt

Very nice, I like the idea of recirculating ice water. The chiller looks really decent, nice job.

    100% brett pumpkin

Interesting feedback on this. Besides the Pumpkin shining through, is there any other brett character coming through and if so, how is that playing with all the flavours? And when do you expect the beer in the keg to hit it's peak in terms of flavour?
